Rainbow challenges give Rosebrook’s early years provision a clear focus on independence, alongside learning that develops children’s language and social skills. This is nursery provision within Rosebrook Primary School in Roseworth, Stockton-on-Tees, with places for two-year-olds as well as nursery sessions.
At the school’s inspection on 4 and 5 February 2025, Ofsted graded early years provision Good. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery. For parents, the useful detail is the emphasis on communication, familiar routines and growing independence.
Morning sessions run from 8.30am to 11.30am; the afternoon runs from 12.10pm to 3.10pm. Both timings apply to Nursery and Pre-Nursery, giving families distinct morning and afternoon options.
In February 2025, early years learning helped children build social skills and develop their communication and language. Put plainly, learning to express themselves and interact with others forms an important part of the day. Rainbow challenges encouraged children to become more independent, while reading and mathematics received repeated practice. These foundations sit alongside each other, rather than independence being treated as an extra.
Daily routines were familiar to children. Staff also monitored learning closely and added help when children needed it, making progress checks a practical part of teaching rather than simply a record of completed activities.
Additional help in the early years was linked to staff’s checks on children’s progress in February 2025. For a child who needs more support with learning, that connection between observation and help matters.
Safeguarding responsibilities extend across staff and volunteers, who receive regular training and report concerns to designated safeguarding leads. CPOMS is used to record concerns, giving safeguarding leads access to information needed to coordinate their response.
For families of preschool children with an autism diagnosis, EarlyBird aims to help parents support social communication and behaviour between diagnosis and school placement. Local contact for the programme is through Daisy Chain.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions round and meet the council’s deadline.
Applications for Reception go through the School Admissions Team for Stockton Borough Council. Parents can give up to three school preferences and explain their reasons. Treat the nursery choice and the later school application as separate decisions: joining Rosebrook’s nursery is not an offer of a Reception place.
To apply for nursery, collect a form from the school office or call 01642 677985. Staff can take details by telephone and add a child to the waiting list. General enquiries can also go to school.admin@rosebrookprimary.org.uk.
Wraparound care. Rosebrook’s breakfast and after-school clubs exclude nursery children and serve Reception to Year 6 only. Families needing childcare beyond nursery sessions should factor that restriction into their plans before applying.
