Nursery at Stafford Grammar School

A nursery on the same campus as the rest of the school gives Stafford Grammar’s Pre-Prep its defining character. Children can join from age 3, with dedicated facilities for Pre-Prep and Prep on the school’s Stafford site. This is the youngest part of an independent school, rather than a separate nursery campus.
The wider grounds cover 35 acres of Staffordshire countryside. That gives the setting a spacious physical context, although the nursery’s own facilities matter more to a young child’s daily experience than the size of the whole estate. For parents, the useful distinction is between sharing a school address and having provision designed for the youngest children: Pre-Prep has dedicated facilities.
Confidence, friendships and an interest in learning are the school’s stated aims for its youngest children. Those priorities give parents a clear starting point for judging whether Pre-Prep suits their child: the emphasis is on becoming comfortable with other children and developing an appetite for learning.
Outdoor exploration is part of the school’s broader educational vision. Its grounds are intended to give children space to investigate their surroundings and develop confidence beyond the classroom. Forest School is among the activities described across the school. That establishes the wider setting’s interest in learning outdoors; it should be distinguished from a nursery session timetable or a promise about how often an individual nursery child takes part.
Dedicated Pre-Prep and Prep facilities sit alongside the school’s aim to help young children feel secure, make friends and grow in confidence. The school describes care and support throughout the day as priorities for its youngest pupils. These are useful intentions for families weighing the emotional step from home into a school setting.
A visit can include a meeting with the Head of Prep and contact with teaching staff. That makes it possible to discuss a child’s needs with the team responsible for the younger part of the school, as well as seeing the physical setting.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families should treat Reception admission as a separate application and use the school’s admissions route, rather than assuming that being on the same campus settles the next step.
Reception applicants can attend a taster morning, afternoon or full day, with no formal entrance assessment. This gives a prospective pupil time in the relevant setting before a place is agreed. The practical value is familiarisation, not an admissions advantage conferred by nursery attendance.
Enquiries go to the admissions team at admissions@staffordgrammar.co.uk or by telephone on 01785 249752. Families can also use an enquiry form. Individual tours and Open Mornings provide routes to meet staff and discuss joining; an individual visit can include the Head of Prep.
For current charges, contact the school. Keep the nursery booking and the later Reception application distinct when making arrangements, so the decision about the child’s immediate care is considered separately from the decision about their next school place.
