Putting a name on the registration fox, choosing play and gathering for songs give Little Foxes its own rhythm within Foxmoor Primary School. This is nursery provision for three- and four-year-olds in the school grounds at Cashes Green, Stroud. Children can join from age three.
The school and its governors manage the nursery together, covering both its daily operation and its strategic direction. A manager, deputy manager and nursery assistants make up the nursery team. For families, this combines a distinct nursery routine with the support arrangements of the attached primary school.
Play has substantial space in each session. The morning starts at 9am with children adding their names to the fox, followed by free play and an organised activity linked to the theme until 10.30am. Stories, songs and circle time follow. Children then look at books at a table before their snack, with outdoor play or indoor free play later in the morning. Singing and circle time bring the session to a close.
Afternoons begin with registration and lunch. From 12.45pm until 2pm, children return to free play and themed activity; outdoor play follows until 2.30pm. Books and a snack precede the final story, song or circle time. The pattern gives children time to choose activities as well as join the group, rather than moving constantly between adult-led tasks.
Books, conversation and singing thread through the day. In May 2025, Ofsted found that communication and language were developed well across the school's early years. The nursery's repeated opportunities to listen, talk and share stories give that emphasis a practical shape. A garden play area provides a physical space for outdoor activity alongside the indoor play in the routine.
Lunch is a lunchbox arrangement for afternoon and full-day attendance. The afternoon routine reserves 12pm to 12.45pm for eating, while both sessions include a snack break. This makes food part of the session's rhythm and gives families a clear role in preparing lunch.
Tapestry connects home with nursery through a personal learning journal containing photographs, notes and video. Parents can comment and contribute their own pictures or clips, helping staff understand children's experiences beyond nursery. WOW Vouchers provide another route: families can share an achievement at home for celebration at Little Foxes.
For additional needs, the nursery connects families with the school's SEND and Early Help arrangements. Support follows an assess, plan, do and review cycle, with the class teacher and SENDCo working with parents. That cycle allows support to change as understanding of a child's needs develops. Families can raise concerns with staff directly or arrange an appointment through the school office.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or produce an automatic transfer. Families must make a separate online application through Gloucestershire County Council by the normal stipulated deadline. Keep that application as a separate task from nursery registration.
Gloucestershire County Council is the admission authority and allocates oversubscribed places using its criteria. Choosing Little Foxes therefore needs to work for the nursery years themselves, independently of the later school-place decision.
Little Foxes operates Monday to Friday during term time, with a morning session from 9am to 12pm, an afternoon session from 12pm to 3pm, and a full day from 9am to 3pm. Full-day and afternoon children bring a lunchbox. The half-day choices let families select a shorter session rather than the full nursery day.
