Learning to share, joining in with songs and getting used to classroom routines give Minchinhampton’s nursery its character. The provision serves children aged three and four within Minchinhampton Primary Academy on School Road. It belongs to the school’s Foundation Stage, with a nursery manager, assistant manager and early years teaching assistant forming the nursery team.
At the Ofsted inspection on 13 and 14 May 2025, early years provision received a Good judgement. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Stories, singing and rhymes are part of early years learning here. They give children an introduction to books through listening and participation. The school’s approach puts play, spoken language and engagement with books early in children’s education; for parents, those priorities make conversation and play relevant parts of learning, rather than simply breaks from it.
In May 2025, nursery children picked up the everyday routines and behavioural expectations quickly. Across early years, children enjoyed playing together and practised sharing resources and waiting for their turn. These are concrete parts of learning alongside other children: getting used to a group means learning when to join in and when to let someone else have a go.
Learning consistency. In May 2025, some indoor activities contributed too little to children’s development, and checks on learning across the early years curriculum were insufficient. Children consequently missed opportunities to strengthen and extend their understanding; at that inspection, some were not well prepared for Year 1. Families should weigh those curriculum weaknesses alongside the positive findings about social play and nursery routines.
A nursery manager works alongside an assistant manager and an early years teaching assistant. This gives parents an identifiable nursery team to contact about their child. For nursery enquiries, the direct email is nursery@minch.dgat.org.uk.
Support also sits within the wider school. Early Help involves parents and carers, while the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) can guide families and help them reach further services. Speech & Language Therapy, the Advisory Teaching Service and Educational Psychology Service are among the services from which the SENCO may seek advice. These are possible sources of additional help, rather than automatic provision for each child. Parents with concerns are encouraged to approach their child’s teaching staff first, giving families a starting point for discussing difficulties.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the applicable deadline. Choosing this nursery should therefore be a decision about the nursery experience itself; a later school place requires its own application.
Contact the nursery at nursery@minch.dgat.org.uk, or the school office at admin@minch.dgat.org.uk and 01453 883273. Visits can be arranged through the office, giving families an opportunity to meet the setting before deciding.
Travel and parking. Parking on the school site is limited to disabled and staff spaces, and the surrounding roads become busy at collection and drop-off. Allow for a walk from nearby parking. For cyclists, bike racks sit beside the top common gate and near the field gate at Cambridge Way; bikes should be secured with a suitable lock.

No. Reception requires a separate application through the normal admissions process.
On 13 and 14 May 2025, early years provision was judged Good. Children played cooperatively, but some indoor activities and checks on learning needed improvement.
