Nursery at Uplands Community Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
A new nursery chapter began at Uplands on 3 March 2025. Uplands Nursery is the nursery provision attached to Uplands Community Primary School on Thompson Road in Stroud. Its opening brought nursery provision into the school, giving families a school setting to consider before the separate application for Reception.
The school’s stated values centre on kindness, individuality and belonging to the community. These describe its ambitions rather than an inspection judgement about the nursery.
Early years practitioner roles form part of the staff team, including a senior practitioner. For families, this identifies an early years staffing structure within the school. The school also has a SEND co-ordinator, contactable on 01453 762409 or at senco@uplands.gloucs.sch.uk, providing a direct contact for discussing additional needs.
Safeguarding responsibilities sit with a designated lead, a deputy lead and a safeguarding officer. The school’s child protection arrangements are intended both to protect children and to guide staff and volunteers when they suspect harm. These are responsibilities within the wider school; they should not be read as a separate inspection assessment of nursery care.
Caterlink supplies the school’s catering. This identifies the school meal provider, rather than establishing a particular nursery meal arrangement. Families considering additional support can also contact the school office about its partnership with Young Minds Matter Gloucestershire. That service supports emotional wellbeing through advice, guidance and specialist help, while the partnership gives the school access to professional advice, training and early support strategies.
Separate applications. Attending Uplands Nursery does not guarantee a Reception place at Uplands. Families must apply again through the normal Reception admissions process. Applications go through Gloucestershire County Council’s admissions website, with January given as the annual deadline. Keep that application separate from nursery registration.
An Expression of Interest form can also be returned to the school in the year before a child is due to start Reception. It accompanies interest in the school; families still need to make the council application. Returning one should not be treated as completing that application.
Transition arrangements have a different purpose: helping children become familiar with school. Staff meet the preschool or nursery teams children have attended, and children and their families can visit the classroom and grounds in July. Where possible, staff make home visits during September’s first week. Those meetings give parents a private opportunity to discuss concerns. Familiarisation and information sharing support the change of setting, but they do not secure admission.
For nursery enquiries and a registration form, contact the school. The office can be reached on 01453 762409 or by email at admin@uplands.gloucs.sch.uk. The school’s address is Thompson Road, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 1TE. Use the nursery registration route for a nursery enquiry and the council route for the later Reception application.
It opened on 3 March 2025.
