Nursery at Lindens Academy
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Makaton, a therapy room and wheelchair access give Lindens Academy’s nursery a wider school support context with concrete resources behind it. The nursery belongs to the academy in Streetly, Sutton Coldfield. Its setting is a single-storey school building, with a specialist therapy room and facilities for personal care.
Communication support takes several forms across the academy. Makaton supplies signs and symbols, while Communication in Print and voice recording books provide other ways to understand information or express ideas. These are specialist resources for pupils who need them, so their relevance depends on the individual child’s learning arrangements.
Quiet areas and calming zones also form part of the academy environment. For a child who needs space to manage their emotions, these provide a physical place for that support.
Additional needs are addressed through Assess Plan Do Review: staff identify a need, choose an intervention, carry it out and assess its impact. Individual Educational Plan targets are discussed with parents at least once each term. That gives families a recurring opportunity to consider the support and the next steps, rather than treating a plan as a finished exercise.
The academy works with the Early Years SEND team, which supports families with children under five, alongside speech and language therapists. The SENDCo can be contacted through the academy office or at send@lindens.lhmat.com. Parents can raise developmental concerns and arrange a conversation about their child’s needs.
Physical support has specific facilities behind it: ramps, double doors, accessible toilets, a shower area and changing facilities. There is also a physiotherapy area. Outdoor accessibility. The academy’s large playground is accessible, but its sports field is not fully accessible. Families whose child has mobility needs should factor that distinction into their choice.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions process; for Walsall residents, that means an online application to Walsall Council. Nursery attendance is not one of Lindens Academy’s Reception oversubscription criteria. Priority instead concerns children in care or previously in care, qualifying siblings, children whose medical or social circumstances make attendance necessary, backed by written evidence from a doctor or social worker, and distance.
For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was before 15 January 2026. That cycle is past.
Transition support is a separate matter. For children with SEND, parents are invited to discuss settling into the new routine, and the SENDCo meets families and identified pupils to consider concerns. Receiving teachers are made aware of needs requiring extra attention. This preparation supports the change of routine; it does not alter admission priority.
Nursery applications go directly to the academy. A paper form can be collected from the office, giving families a direct starting point for applying. The academy is on Hundred Acre Road, Streetly, Sutton Coldfield, B74 2BB; its telephone number is 0121 353 9273.
For SEND discussions, the academy also offers a termly informal parent group and workshop. Families can meet the SENDCo, the SEND team and outside agencies involved with their children.
