Nursery at Manor Primary School

Stories shape the learning, while Manor Minis lets children continue their day in the same nursery classroom. Manor Primary School’s nursery in Streetly combines a morning session with optional afternoon care, giving families a choice between a shorter day and an extended stay.
For September 2027, the intake is capped at 26 children, with birthdays from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024. The nursery teacher also holds responsibility for 30 Hours Childcare. This places the extended provision within the nursery’s teaching structure.
The morning runs from 8:55am until 11:55am. Children practise managing their belongings by hanging coats on individual pegs marked with a photograph and name. That gives a small, concrete task a place in the daily routine.
Listening comes before formal reading. Play, rhymes and games help children recognise sounds, notice rhyme and hear words that begin alike. Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is the school’s named phonics approach; the nursery activities build the listening skills needed for later blending.
At the February 2023 inspection, Ofsted found that nursery learning drew on a different story each week. Books therefore provide a recurring starting point for learning, alongside the sound games and nursery rhymes.
Outdoor learning is part of nursery life, with named wellington boots required. Experiences also extend beyond the classroom: the 2024-2025 nursery programme included Ash End Farm, Little Kid Town and a fire engine, alongside Easter crafts and Christmas songs and crafts. These give families concrete examples of the activities associated with this nursery, rather than a promise about future trips.
Children staying with Manor Minis eat lunch after the morning session and spend the afternoon in the nursery. Collection is at 2:55pm or 3:15pm, so extending the day does not require a move to another classroom.
A teacher and teaching assistant support the start of the nursery day. Collection is individual, and staff release children only to an adult on their authorised list. Families need to keep that list aligned with whoever will collect.
Early-years children receive fruit daily, and each child needs a water bottle that goes home for cleaning. Lunch is part of the extended nursery day. These routines make food and drinking water practical parts of planning for attendance.
The school’s Inclusion Hub provides a space for children to talk to an adult, borrow fiddle toys or have a gentler start. Zones of Regulation supports learning about managing emotions. Families can contact the SENCO through the office, giving them a direct route into the school’s SEND support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through their home council’s online application system, within the deadline for their child’s entry year. Manor participates in Walsall Council’s coordinated process, and applications are assessed against the relevant admission criteria. Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as separate commitments.
Morning attendance totals 15 hours each week. Adding the afternoon until 2:55pm brings attendance to 30 hours; eligibility for 30-hour funding must be checked. The additional period ending at 3:15pm is charged and is intended to help families collecting older siblings. Contact the school for current charges.
For the September 2027 nursery intake, applications close on 19 January 2027, with offers due before 12 February 2027. Families can use the nursery application form and Manor Minis booking form, or arrange a visit through the school. The office can be reached at postbox@manor.walsall.sch.uk or 0121 353 1738.
Spare uniform, underwear and socks or tights should stay in a drawstring bag on the child’s peg. Weather-appropriate outerwear and named wellington boots support outdoor activities. Nursery doors close at 9:00am; late arrivals must be signed in through the office.
The morning is 8:55am to 11:55am. Manor Minis extends attendance until 2:55pm or 3:15pm, with lunch followed by afternoon care in the nursery.
Up to 26 places are planned for children born between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024. The application deadline is 19 January 2027, with offers before 12 February 2027.
No. Families must make a separate Reception application through their local council’s online system, by the deadline for the relevant entry year.
Children develop listening and sound recognition through games, play and nursery rhymes, including rhyme and alliteration. The school uses Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised.
