Nursery at Sutton Park Primary

Warm adult care and clear expectations give Sutton Park Primary’s nursery its character. The nursery forms part of the primary school on Coppice View Road in Sutton Coldfield. Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 10 and 11 April 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Activities and learning resources give children opportunities to explore their interests. In April 2024, children in early years were making a positive start to learning, with adults establishing expectations for both learning and behaviour. Adult warmth matters alongside those expectations.
For parents, the early years foundation stage here means children developing their interests through activities and resources, alongside learning what is expected of their behaviour and approach to learning. Caring staff support that early start.
Settling begins with an organised induction process that the school aims to use to help children feel comfortable and start positively. For children with SEND, an induction meeting brings parents and involved professionals together to share information about the child. A shorter or adjusted day may be offered at the beginning. This allows the start to respond to individual needs.
Support is coordinated by the Lead Practitioner for Inclusion and SEND, working with class teachers and other professionals. Parents can raise concerns with their child’s teacher and arrange further discussions through the office. Where a child needs additional help, provision may involve an individual session or a small group. Support can also include changes to classroom routines, resources or the environment.
Families remain involved in reviewing that support. Children receiving targeted SEN support have a review each term; paperwork is shared with parents, who are offered a telephone discussion. One-page profiles record needs and strategies on Edukey Provision Map, giving staff a shared account of what helps each child.
Accessibility extends beyond teaching. The school building has level access, accessible toilets and a changing table with adjustable height. These are practical features for families discussing mobility or personal care needs, though the arrangements must suit the individual child.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place, and children do not move into the main school automatically. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority in the normal admissions round and meet the deadline for their entry year.
For 2027/2028 entry, nursery attendance confers no priority. Places are allocated using the applicable admission criteria, so choosing the nursery and applying for Reception remain separate decisions.
For children with SEND, additional transition support may include meetings with the next teacher or key adult, extra classroom visits and photographs used to make a transition booklet. These arrangements help a child prepare for change. They do not alter the admission rules.
Nursery enquiries can be made through the school office on 0121 464 7355 or by emailing enquiry@suttonparkprimary.co.uk. The school is on Coppice View Road, Sutton Coldfield, B73 6UE. The office is also the route for arranging a discussion about SEND support, allowing families to bring care and inclusion questions into their initial conversation.
The April 2024 inspection graded the school’s early years provision Good. This is an early years judgement within the school inspection, not a separate nursery rating.
No. A separate Reception application is required through your home local authority, and nursery attendance gives no priority for 2027/2028 entry.
