Nursery at Ebbsfleet Green Primary School

Mud kitchens, woodland exploration and stories give Ebbsfleet Green's nursery its character. Cherry Tree Class is the school's nursery provision, with entry for children turning three by the beginning of the September, January or April term, subject to availability. This is a school-year arrangement: children are expected to attend five days each week during the academic year.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 7 and 8 March 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school. It is not a separate nursery rating.
Play and language work together here. In March 2023, early years children explored activities on their own and joined groups with adult guidance. Equipment was arranged within children's reach, allowing them to choose resources for themselves. That gives independence a practical expression: children can get what they need rather than wait for an adult to hand it over.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) takes shape through play, conversation and physical development. The nursery emphasises relationships, social habits and the development of both large movements and finer hand control. Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised begins in Nursery with foundational skills. Stories, rhymes and songs build children's confidence with language, giving early reading preparation a playful starting point.
On-site Forest School brings another dimension. Early years children have outdoor teaching sessions, while the weekly Forest School routine combines planned activities with choices children make themselves. Shelter building, looking for small creatures and planting sit alongside mud kitchens and digging equipment. Children practise putting on their own wellington boots, revisit safety rules and learn to use resources safely. These are small, concrete steps towards managing themselves.
Sessions continue in different weather conditions, so clothes that can become muddy are part of the practical preparation. Tidying, talking about the session and having hot chocolate with a biscuit round off the routine.
Relationships matter as much as resources. In March 2023, adults' interactions with early years children were caring and encouraging. Nursery families take part in home visits, giving staff and parents a way to begin building a relationship around the child.
Learning journeys and stay-and-play sessions involve parents in early years learning. They offer a closer connection with children's experiences than an administrative message alone. MyChildAtSchool provides the school's parent communication and payment portal.
For additional needs, the school aims to adjust activities to children's individual starting points and identify support needs early. Its SEND approach includes reviewing support, working with families on next steps and using outside services where appropriate. This gives parents a route for discussing their child's needs alongside the everyday nursery experience.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route. For children starting primary school in September 2027, applications go through Kent County Council between November 2026 and January 2027.
Familiarity with school life and admission entitlement are separate matters. Stories, songs and rhymes develop language from the start of Nursery, supporting preparation for learning to read. Families should still complete the Reception application rather than assume that continuing at the same school happens automatically.
Morning, afternoon and all-day attendance options are offered. Timings. Session timings conflict: the school-day timetable gives morning 08:30 to 11:30 and afternoon 11:30 to 14:30, while nursery admissions gives different half-day times and an all-day option of 09:30 to 15:30. Confirm which timetable applies to the place you accept before arranging childcare around it.
The all-day arrangement includes parent-funded additional time alongside a 30-hour code, or parent funding beyond the standard 15-hour entitlement. There are also 30-hour weekly places for families with a 30-hour code. Ask the school for current charges and the applicable arrangement.
Nursery applications use an online form. Enquiries can go to info@ebbsfleetgreenprimary.org.uk or 01987 591 627. Uniform includes a grey jumper or cardigan and a white polo shirt; nursery children may wear leggings or jogging bottoms. Pack spare clothes and label clothing, so practical care needs are easier to manage.
