Books, imaginative play and outdoor exploration give Acorn Pre-School its character. This is the nursery provision at Shrivenham Church of England School, with entry arrangements covering children aged two to four. It offers an early start within a primary-school setting.
In April 2024, the school moved into a new building on the Cross Trees Estate, towards the village edge. The current address is 18 Raven Way, Shrivenham. For families, that fixes the practical location of the school and its pre-school provision.
Stories and creative play are part of the pre-school day, alongside discovery and time outdoors. Sharing books gives children opportunities to enjoy stories together; exploration and imagination provide another way into learning. These are the concrete activities that define Acorn's offer.
The pre-school aims to develop curiosity and confidence through play, while helping children build skills for later learning. Acorn aims to lay foundations for later learning through imaginative exploration and fun.
Additional-needs support sits within the school's SEND structure. The SEND coordinator works with families, school staff and outside agencies, providing a point of contact for discussing extra help. The school's approach includes identifying needs and adapting learning so children can participate alongside their peers.
The SENSS Communication and Interaction Advisory Team also works in school. That gives the school's support arrangements a specific link to specialist advice on communication and interaction needs.
School meal arrangements allow children to bring lunch from home or have a school meal. Hot and cold food is prepared in the school's kitchen. Water is accessible throughout the day, and children need a refillable bottle bearing their name. The school is nut aware, a practical consideration when preparing food to bring in.
Attending Acorn does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Oxfordshire County Council and meet the deadline for their child's entry year. Choosing the nursery and applying for school are separate decisions.
For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle has passed; those dates should not be treated as the timetable for a later intake.
Universal funding provides 15 hours for three- and four-year-olds, beginning in the term after the third birthday. Working-family funding is conditional on eligibility, and the eligibility code needs renewing every three months. The funding arrangements describe provision across 38 weeks, which matters when planning childcare through the year.
For children staying all day, lunchtime carries a separate charge outside funded hours. Nappies, trips, pull-ups, visitors and sun cream are excluded from session costs. Ask the school for current charges.
