A term-time day, a start from age two and a place within a church primary school define Hatchlings Nursery. This is the nursery provision at Hatch Beauchamp Church of England Primary School on Station Road in Hatch Beauchamp, rather than a separate childcare setting.
The school’s Christian ethos gives the wider setting its character. It aims to develop children’s curiosity and confidence, with responsibility, acceptance and courage among its core values. These are the school’s aspirations for children’s experience here.
From Monday to Friday during school terms, the nursery runs from 9am to 3pm. That gives families a clear daytime window around which to organise care and work.
The nursery timetable differs from the main school’s: school begins at 8.50am and ends at 3.10pm. For families with children in both, those different start and finish times matter. Plan around the nursery’s own hours.
Lunch arrangements across the school offer a choice between a packed meal from home and a purchased cooked lunch. Edwards & Ward supplies the meals, with a vegetarian choice always offered and most religious or medical dietary requirements accommodated. Packed lunches need a container bearing the child’s name. Children are supervised during lunch, including in the hall; the school sees this time as an opportunity to build friendships and social skills.
For concerns about learning, parents can arrange a conversation with the head or special educational needs coordinator through the office. The school aims to include children with SEND in school activities alongside their peers. That provides a direct route for discussing an individual child’s needs.
Safeguarding concerns can be taken to the designated safeguarding lead or deputy. The school may involve other agencies over a child’s welfare and says it discusses concerns with parents first, except where doing so could put the child’s welfare at risk. This qualification matters when sensitive concerns arise.
Attending Hatchlings does not guarantee a Reception place. Families need to make a separate Reception application through the local authority, returning it to the LA in Taunton before the deadline given in their application paperwork. An online application option is also offered.
Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as separate decisions. Joining the nursery is not a substitute for completing the school application, and families should keep that deadline in their calendar even while their child attends Hatchlings.
The school office handles nursery applications and visit bookings on 01823 480616. A visit gives families an opportunity to discuss their child’s start with the team before applying. General enquiries can also be sent to admin.hatch@acexcellence.co.uk.
Term-time hours. Nursery operates on weekdays from 9am to 3pm during school terms. Families whose work extends beyond that window need to plan their childcare around it.
Clothing and belongings. Clothing, lunchboxes and drinks bottles should carry the child’s name, helping misplaced belongings get back to the right child. The school’s summer footwear guidance specifically excludes open-toed sandals for preschool children.
