An outdoor classroom and Forest School give Owlets a day that extends beyond indoor play. This teacher-led nursery at Lindridge St Lawrence CE Primary School takes children from age two until Reception, combining children's own interests with teaching that introduces new skills. It sits within the school's early years department, with its own classroom and dedicated outdoor learning space.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 4 and 5 October 2022. That judgement covers the early years department rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Play and adult guidance work together here. Children can investigate independently, make things and exchange ideas with others, while staff also lead specific teaching activities. Carpet time brings children together for learning across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The balance gives children scope to pursue an interest as well as time to learn alongside an adult.
The EYFS covers seven connected areas. Language and communication, physical development, and personal, emotional and social development provide the foundations. Mathematics, literacy, creative expression and understanding the world extend these. In parent terms, the curriculum combines learning to communicate and build relationships with movement, early number work and opportunities to explore and create. Adults demonstrate activities, guide learning and help children learn together. Staff adjust their approach to children's different rates of development.
Owlets has an indoor classroom and a separate outdoor classroom, while weekly outdoor learning uses the school grounds. Forest School adds another setting for exploration. Children therefore learn in several spaces rather than having outdoor time confined to a break from classroom activity.
Read Write Inc Phonics begins in Nursery. In October 2022, early years number learning was supported by effective teaching and practical tasks, giving children concrete ways to develop their understanding of numbers.
Taster sessions support the transition into Owlets, and families can arrange visits. The nursery says that knowing children individually and building positive relationships with families are central to its approach.
Support draws on the wider school team. A SEND coordinator is in school daily, and children may receive help from a teacher or teaching assistant, or through an individual intervention. Where further help is needed, outside professionals may include a speech and language therapist or educational psychologist. An in-school family support worker can also help parents with paperwork, attendance concerns and finding appropriate services. These provide distinct routes for concerns about a child's learning and pressures affecting family life.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal Reception admissions process, using Worcestershire County Council's admissions route and meeting the deadline for their child's intake. Treat choosing Owlets and applying for Reception as two separate decisions.
Eligible two-year-olds can use funded hours from the term after their second birthday. For three-year-olds, funding is for 15 or 30 hours a week, depending on eligibility, and begins in the term after their third birthday. Families can pay privately for extra hours or attendance between the relevant birthday and the start of funding. Contact the school for current charges.
Lindkidz wraparound care is open to nursery children before school from 7.30am and after school until 5.30pm. Funded hours can cover this care, or families can pay privately, giving an option for extending attendance around the nursery session.
