Nursery at St Teresa's Catholic Primary School

Acorns gives the nursery at St Teresa's Catholic Primary School its own identity within a Catholic primary setting in Thornton-Cleveleys. Provision starts from age 3. The nursery aims to give children room to develop at an individual pace, with learning that prepares them for their next stage rather than treating that move as automatic.
Learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the framework used for the nursery's early education. St Teresa's aims to connect learning with the surrounding area and build knowledge in stages. For parents, the emphasis is on foundations: children have time to develop their understanding before building on it.
In April 2025, children in the early years made a positive start, using resources chosen to help them rehearse learning introduced by staff. Social development was already evident in the nursery: children borrowed adults' language about teamwork during play. That is a concrete example of learning extending beyond an adult-led activity into children's own interactions.
Catholic teaching has a named place in the nursery curriculum. Religious education uses To Know You More Clearly, supported by Vine and Branches and resources from the Diocese of Plymouth. The school aims to develop respect for faith and other beliefs. Its values include forgiveness and kindness, while Ready, Respectful and Safe names the expectations used across school life. Families choosing Acorns are therefore choosing early education within an explicitly Catholic framework.
Parents can approach the nursery team with questions or concerns. That direct contact matters when a young child's needs change or a family wants to discuss how learning is progressing.
For additional learning needs, the school involves parents in identifying concerns and assessing support. The first point of discussion is the class teacher or Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator. Individual work and small-group learning supplement classroom experiences, with a specialist Learning Support Teacher also available across the school. Links include an Educational Psychologist and an Outreach service for physical disabilities and complex learning needs.
Accessibility features across the school include ramps at some external ground-floor doors, a platform lift and an accessible ground-floor toilet. These are practical features for families considering mobility needs. The headteacher holds the Designated Safeguarding Lead role, giving families a defined point of responsibility for child protection.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal council admissions route for their home area: Blackpool or Lancashire for Wyre residents.
For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is past. The nursery's aim of preparing children for their next class is an educational aim, separate from the allocation of a school place.
