Stories, early number work and a Catholic identity give All Saints Pre-School its character. This is the nursery provision within All Saints Catholic Primary School in Golborne, on Hazel Grove, with its own morning and afternoon sessions. Families can choose between two distinct parts of the nursery day.
The early years findings from Ofsted’s April 2025 visit describe enjoyable learning in a calm atmosphere, with activities that strengthen children’s conversation and relationships. These findings cover the school’s early years provision, rather than awarding the nursery a separate grade.
Books give children a shared starting point. Early years children learn stories and rhymes, developing an interest in reading alongside opportunities to communicate with one another. The English curriculum includes an adult reading to children each day across the school. For a young child, listening to a story is part of the day as well as an introduction to books.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) shapes the early mathematics curriculum. In practical parent language, the focus includes counting, comparing quantities and exploring patterns and shapes. Staff assess children’s skills before teaching, then plan further opportunities to practise them. That links teaching to each child’s starting point rather than assuming everyone already knows the same things.
Come and See is named within EYFS religious education, giving the early years curriculum a specifically Catholic strand. Together, these elements put language, early mathematical understanding and faith into the learning programme.
A Level 3 teaching assistant working as an EYFS practitioner forms part of the pre-school staffing structure. At school level, families also have access to an inclusion manager and a designated safeguarding lead. These roles provide routes for discussing additional needs or concerns about a child.
Orian provides the school’s catering, including nursery meals. Families use SCHOOL HUB to select and pay for meals ahead of time, with ordering possible daily, weekly or up to two weeks ahead. Daily orders must be placed before your child arrives and before the published 9.00/9.30am cut-off; confirm the applicable time with the school. A packed lunch is required when a meal has not been ordered and paid for in advance. This makes lunch planning a task to complete at home.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. The school directs primary-place applicants to Wigan Council’s admissions route.
A Registration of Interest form has a different purpose: the school keeps the details and contacts families before Reception admission arrangements begin. Treat that contact as information about the application process, rather than an offer of a place.
Pre-school opening hours are 9am to 3pm. Morning sessions run from 9am until noon; afternoon sessions start at noon and finish at 3pm. Those boundaries help families plan work and collection around the chosen session.
