Three-hour sessions give Brook Acre’s nursery day its shape. Foundation Stage 1 is the nursery provision at Brook Acre Community Primary School on Hilden Road in Padgate, Warrington. For families choosing between a morning and an afternoon, the two sessions provide clear start and finish points around which to plan.
Listening and making sounds are starting points for early reading here. Foundation Stage 1 introduces Phase 1 phonics through focused activities in small groups: children practise producing different sounds and listening to them. Initial sounds follow when appropriate. That keeps the introduction tied to children’s readiness rather than assuming everyone should move at the same pace.
Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), daily story time brings books into the routine. Classroom book corners give children access to fiction and non-fiction, so books also have a place beyond an adult-led session. These are concrete opportunities to hear language and explore stories.
Phonics activities extend into both the indoor and outdoor learning spaces, where Foundation Stage 1 children can explore them independently during the day. The combination of small-group work and independent activity gives children different ways to engage with sounds, rather than keeping this learning solely within a formal teaching session.
For children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), support follows the school’s cycle of assessing needs, planning action, putting it into practice and reviewing it. Teachers discuss initial concerns with parents early and involve the SEND team. Targets and progress are shared with families, giving parents a part in understanding the next steps.
Specialist involvement may include the Speech and Language Service, community paediatricians or occupational therapy. These are possible routes for additional help, rather than services every child receives.
Early Help also extends support to the family. The school can undertake an assessment with parents and other organisations, including health services, to bring help together around the household’s needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must submit a separate application through their home local authority, which sends the school-place offer. For September 2027 entry, the stated closing date is 15 January 2027.
The proposed arrangements for 2027/2028 place children registered at Brook Acre Primary Nursery fifth in the oversubscription order, ahead of the distance criterion. Four categories come before them, including siblings and children in care. The trust describes these arrangements as under consultation, so families should distinguish the proposed priority from a guaranteed place.
For children with SEND, transition support may involve extra classroom visits, meetings with the new teacher and photographs of important people and places. These help with familiarity; they are separate from the application decision.
Morning nursery runs from 8:40am to 11:40am; the afternoon runs from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. Choose the session that fits the family’s collection arrangements.
