Nursery at Oakwood Avenue Community Primary School

Two-year-olds have their own nursery provision here, alongside a nursery for three-year-olds. That gives Oakwood Avenue Community Primary School’s youngest children a distinct starting point within the primary school, rather than treating nursery as a single age group. The school is on Oakwood Avenue in Warrington.
Early years provision received a Good judgement at the Ofsted inspection on 23 and 24 January 2024. This judgement covers the school’s early years provision; it is not a separate nursery inspection. The strongest nursery-specific details concern relationships, staff expertise and children’s enjoyment of stories.
Nursery rhymes and traditional stories give the youngest children an introduction to reading. In January 2024, children across early years, including the two-year-old provision, enjoyed both. For parents, this is a concrete picture of early literacy: children encounter stories and rhymes before the later stages of learning to read.
Learning has a planned sequence beginning with the two-year-olds. In January 2024, the curriculum was organised coherently from that starting point, and early years staff had the knowledge and teaching skills to put it into practice. This gives the youngest provision an educational purpose alongside the social experience of spending time with adults and other children.
Settling was a strength in January 2024: young children became comfortable quickly and developed trusting connections with staff and friendships with other children. Those relationships matter when a child is beginning to spend time away from their family.
For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), the school’s support structure includes a SEND co-ordinator working with teachers on individual programmes. The school aims for children with additional needs to participate in everyday school life, with extra support beyond adapted classroom activities. This gives families a clear team role to approach about their child’s needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority and meet the normal admissions deadline; there is no automatic transfer.
For the 2026/2027 admissions year, registration at Oakwood Avenue Nursery gives fifth-ranked oversubscription priority. Higher-ranked categories are considered first, and distance determines priority within a category when places run short. Nursery registration therefore provides a defined admissions preference, rather than certainty of an offer.
Preparation for the next stage also includes Starting Reception support, with potty-training and toothbrushing guidance for families. These practical resources address everyday readiness separately from the application process.
Nursery enquiries go through the school office on 01925 635565. Families can arrange a staff meeting and a look round, giving them a direct introduction to the provision before choosing it.
The office opens at 8am on weekdays. It closes at 4pm from Monday to Thursday and at 3.30pm on Friday, which helps parents plan when to make contact.
