Nursery at Old Park Primary School

Curiosity and concentration give Old Park’s early years provision its character. In May 2024, children expressed their ideas confidently, took an interest in the world around them and sustained their attention. Those are useful foundations for a child beginning school: learning involves sharing thoughts as well as listening.
The nursery belongs to Old Park Primary School on Old Park Road in Wednesbury. Families can choose between places covering 15 or 30 hours. Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Outstanding following its inspection on 21 and 22 May 2024; that judgement covers early years rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Being able to express an idea and stay with an activity matters for the next stage of schooling. In May 2024, inspectors found that early years children could explain their thoughts and feelings confidently and maintain their focus for extended periods. They linked that concentration to readiness for the next stage.
Early academic learning sat alongside an interest in discovering how the surrounding world works. Reading began when children started school, while mathematics drew their enthusiasm. For parents, the findings describe both developing learning habits and an appetite for discovery.
Nursery events add some concrete detail to the calendar. A Sing-a-Long is scheduled for 26 November 2026, at 10.30am and 2.15pm. Further ahead, nursery children are included in a Dance-a-thon on 29 April 2027 and a sports day on 25 May 2027. Singing and movement therefore have identifiable places among the planned activities.
Contact with parents includes nursery consultations on 13 and 14 October 2026. Another consultation round is scheduled for 23 and 24 February 2027, starting at 3.30pm. These dates give families specific opportunities to discuss their child rather than relying solely on school events.
For the next intake, meetings for new nursery parents are scheduled for 17 June 2027 and require an appointment. The autumn opening calendar also directs nursery families to their staggered-start email. That makes the individual starting arrangements relevant when planning the first days.
Separate admissions. Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through the normal Reception admissions process and meet its deadline. Choosing nursery should therefore be a decision about the nursery experience, with the later application treated as a separate step.
Reception preparation events appear separately in the calendar: a parent meeting on 23 June 2027 takes place in the School Hall, followed by a parent Stay & Play session on 25 June. These offer families occasions to prepare for the next stage; they should not be read as an admissions advantage from nursery attendance.

Calendar exceptions. There is no afternoon nursery session on 18 December 2026, and nursery is closed throughout 1 July 2027. Families planning care around their nursery place need to account for these specific interruptions as well as their child’s starting arrangements.
