Nursery at Leigh Stationers' Primary Academy

A morning nursery with a place in school life: children at Leigh Stationers' Primary Academy join assemblies, take part in productions and visit classes beyond their own. There are 26 nursery places, with one intake each year. Entry is for three-year-olds, and the nursery sits within the academy on Eastcote Road in Welling.
The school describes the nursery as spacious. Its connection with the main school gives children opportunities to become familiar with other staff and surroundings while keeping a shorter morning timetable.
The morning runs from 08:45 to 11:45, five days a week. Mathematics includes daily number teaching and a short recall activity of approximately five minutes. Opportunities to explore the five mathematics strands also run through the learning provision, so number learning combines direct teaching with chances to practise during activities.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sits within the school's International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). For parents, the concrete detail is how early learning connects practical activity with language and number. In October 2024, early-years staff developed children's speaking skills by demonstrating new vocabulary in sentences; nursery children used building vocabulary while making a wall. An everyday construction activity became a chance to practise explaining what they were doing.
Visits to the main building broaden the morning beyond the nursery classroom. Assemblies, performances and class visits introduce children to shared school activities and the adults involved in them.
Fresh fruit is provided daily for nursery children. Drinking water is accessible throughout the day, and nursery children under five qualify for free school milk. These are practical parts of the morning's food and drink arrangements.
Preparation for school entry includes visits by Foundation Stage teachers and teaching assistants to children's homes and preschool settings. Staff also meet children during transition days, usually in July. These contacts give families opportunities to introduce their child before entry.
For concerns about development, the class teacher is the first contact, with the SEN team providing further support. The school can use Speech Link or Language Link screening to explore speech sounds and language difficulties, alongside information from parents and teachers. Support plans identify individual needs, targets and the help required, giving families specific points to discuss at review meetings. The academy occupies a single level, and access arrangements for children with disabilities are agreed with parents before they join.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Bexley's coordinated admissions process; nursery attendance confers no priority for September 2027 entry.
For the past September 2026 Reception intake, applications went through eAdmissions and closed on 15 January 2026. That deadline belongs to that intake.
Nursery and Reception staff collaborate, while children's visits to the main building build familiarity. This preparation supports the move between classes. It does not change the admissions process.
Morning collection. Nursery finishes at 11:45. Families needing care beyond the morning must plan around that finish time. Drop-off uses the side gate beside the nursery.
