Counting on fingers gave a small but telling picture of early learning at Hall Green in Ofsted's March 2023 observations: children joined a teacher-led group and made numbers tangible. The nursery belongs to Hall Green Primary School on Westminster Road in West Bromwich. Its early years provision caters for three- and four-year-olds, with morning, afternoon and full-time attendance patterns. For families, that creates a practical choice between a shorter session and a longer school day.
In March 2023, Ofsted observed early learning that combined group teaching with opportunities to develop movement and hand control. Inspectors described early years staff as skilled and trained to meet the needs of this age group. Children learned new knowledge and skills successfully. The observed finger-counting activity gives a useful example: an abstract idea became something children could practise physically alongside others.
In those March 2023 early years observations, large movements and finer hand movements also received attention, helping children develop the control needed for writing. These are purposeful foundations for later learning. The early years findings also described children as comfortable with school routines and able to build positive connections with adults and other children. Familiar routines and relationships provide a foundation for taking part in learning together.
For children who need additional help, the school's SEND process begins with teachers discussing concerns with parents and putting a short-term support plan in place. If that support has little impact, the SENCo becomes involved, with further discussion involving the family. This gives parents a role in understanding the concern and reviewing the response.
When a child is placed on the SEND register following initial support and SENCo discussions, an All About Me document records their strengths, development needs and targets. Targets are reviewed each term, and parents are invited to contribute at three meetings a year. Possible specialist involvement includes the Complex Communication and Autism Team, Inclusion Support and speech and language services. These are possible routes for additional advice, rather than a promise that every child will receive each service.
Arbor is the school's preferred channel for email and app messages. Primary guardians can access it to check communications and amend some records, including information relevant to their child's care. The nursery also has its own email address, providing a direct contact route alongside the school office.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process by the applicable deadline.
For families who pay council tax to Sandwell MBC, the school's admissions guidance directs applications through Sandwell's online council process, including applications to schools outside Sandwell. Help with the electronic application is offered to families who need it. Treat choosing a nursery session and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
Morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am, while afternoon sessions run from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Each is listed as 15 hours a week. Full-time opening hours are 8:45am to 3:30pm, with 30 hours a week listed. The different finishing times matter when planning collection around work or another child's school day.
The Forms for Parents/Carers page includes the Hall Green Nursery Application form and directs families to return completed forms to the school office. For enquiries, email nursery@hallgreenprimary.co.uk or telephone 0121 588 2080 and ask for the office staff.
