Nursery at North Crescent Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
A nursery within a small primary school gives North Crescent's youngest children a school setting from the outset. Based in Wickford, the provision belongs to North Crescent Primary School. In October 2023, nursery places were offered for children aged two, three and four; that dated offer should not be read as a promise of a vacancy today.
The school describes itself as small and caring, with 30 pupils per year group. Ofsted graded its early years provision Outstanding at the inspection on 17 and 18 April 2024. That judgement covers the school's early years provision rather than giving the nursery a separate grade.
Learning follows a sequence that begins in the early years. In April 2024, children were making a positive start within that curriculum. For parents, the relevant emphasis is on learning that connects across stages, with the early years forming the beginning of the school's teaching sequence.
Communication gives families several ways to stay involved. North Crescent uses Tapestry across its year groups, alongside email, text messages and newsletters. Classroom drop-ins and parent consultations take place termly, giving families scheduled opportunities to discuss their child as well as routes for everyday contact.
An open-door approach means parents can raise a concern straight away. The first conversation is with the class teacher; a member of the leadership team or the Pastoral Lead is the next contact. This gives a parent a clear sequence of people to approach rather than leaving a worry unresolved.
For questions about learning and progress, families can request a meeting through the office or by emailing admin@northcrescent.org, after speaking to the class teacher first. Essex SEND IASS also offers confidential, impartial advice and support to parents and carers about special educational needs and disability. It provides another route for families seeking advice.
Separate application. Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply again through the normal Reception process, with applications made to Essex County Council. Choosing nursery provision and securing a school place are separate decisions.
For the past 2026 entry cycle, applications ran from 10 November 2025 to 15 January 2026. Those dates belong to that completed cycle and should not be used as a future deadline. Nursery attendance should therefore be considered on its own merits, rather than treated as an assured route to Reception.
The school office handles general enquiries on 01268 765905 or at admin@northcrescent.org. Office hours run from 8.30am to 4pm. This gives families a direct contact for a nursery enquiry.
School tours operate without advance booking on scheduled dates, and families needing another arrangement can contact the office. A tour is an opportunity to consider the school setting before making a choice.
Nursery access. Nursery gates remain open later than the main school's gates. Families should distinguish nursery access from the main school's arrival arrangements when planning their journey.
In October 2023, it offered nursery places for children aged two, three and four. That historical offer does not establish current vacancies.
