Forest School, a kitchen garden and the school library give Little Oaks a nursery day that reaches beyond its classroom. This teacher-led nursery class belongs to Brookhurst Primary School in Bromborough, with children joining school activities when these suit their stage of development. The appeal is practical: nursery children can use the wider school's spaces while learning through play.
The first Little Oaks cohort started in September 2025. Children wear a coloured House Family T-shirt, bringing a visible connection with the wider school into everyday nursery life. Brookhurst calls its school community the Brookhurst Big Family; Little Oaks forms part of that community from the beginning.
Children's interests help shape learning, alongside activities led by adults. Provision follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, with the nursery's Branching Out approach organised around Nurture, Learn and Grow. In everyday terms, children have room to pursue their own ideas, while adults introduce experiences that broaden what they know and understand. There is a balance between choosing and being guided.
Play has concrete materials and spaces behind it. The home corner supports pretend play; blocks give children something to construct with, and playdough provides another way to explore and make things. These are recognisable activities for a young child, rather than a day described only through curriculum language.
Beyond the classroom, Little Oaks uses the kitchen garden and Forest School, as well as the field and school play areas. Indoors, children can use the library and hall. That combination gives the nursery access to spaces for books, outdoor exploration and movement, with participation in wider school activities matched to children's development.
Relationships are a stated priority at Little Oaks. The nursery aims to help children build connections with adults and other children, and says staff respond to each child as an individual. For families, the emphasis is on adults getting to know the child alongside the learning activities.
Brookhurst also aims to keep families informed and share children's learning with them. Lunch can be brought from home or taken as a hot school meal. Lunch charges apply with either option, so families choosing days that include lunchtime should account for that separately from funded hours.
Attending Little Oaks does not guarantee a Reception place at Brookhurst. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the normal deadline. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as separate decisions.
Taking part in school life gives children experience of the wider setting. That familiarity is distinct from securing an admission place.
The 15-hour funded options are five mornings, five afternoons or two and a half days. Morning sessions run from 8:45 to 11:45; afternoons run from 12:15 to 3:15. The 30-hour option comprises five full days each week, giving families a different attendance pattern from the shorter sessions.
The B-Hive provides care before and after school. Breakfast Club runs Monday to Friday, 7:45am to 8:45am. After School Club runs from 3:15pm to 6pm Monday to Thursday, finishing at 5:45pm on Fridays. That earlier Friday finish matters when planning collection.
