Nursery at Chapelhill Primary School

Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Adult-guided learning and children's own exploration share the day at Chapelhill's nursery. This is the pre-school provision within Chapelhill Primary School in Moreton, with entry from age 2.5. Its early years approach combines attention to individual development with opportunities for children to investigate and become more independent.

Chapelhill has no Ofsted graded rating yet under this URN. Families should therefore distinguish the nursery's learning approach from an inspection judgement about its quality.

The Nursery Day

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the framework for learning. In parent language, that means developing communication, movement and relationships alongside early reading, writing and mathematics, exploration of the world and creative expression. These are connected areas of development, rather than a day defined solely by academic work.

Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters inform planning, teaching and assessment. Activities combine those directed by adults with those children initiate themselves. That balance gives children time to pursue an interest as well as take part in planned learning. Exploration and investigation are part of the approach, with independence an explicit aim.

Observation helps determine what comes next for each child. Staff use ongoing assessment to respond to individual needs, so planning takes account of children's development. Within early years literacy, mark-making, hand control and forming letters receive attention. The emphasis is on the building blocks of writing, including its physical demands, rather than simply producing finished written work.

Care and Support

Inclusion is an explicit early years aim: Chapelhill says it seeks to meet children's individual needs, including special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Across the school, the aim is to identify needs promptly and act early. Parents can arrange an appointment through the office or contact the SEND team at send@chapelhillprimary.co.uk, providing a direct route into that conversation.

Dojo is the school's channel for parent communication and updates about events. School procedures also give families practical responsibilities around medicines: an adult must bring and collect them through the office, complete the required form and provide the original container with the child's name and dosage visible. That makes the handover a defined process.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority in the normal admissions round, by the normal deadline. Wirral Council coordinates Chapelhill's Reception allocations; the nursery application goes directly to the school.

For entry in 2027–2028, nursery attendance confers no priority. Allocation instead accounts for children whose EHC plans name Chapelhill, care status, catchment, siblings and distance. Families choosing the nursery should treat the later school application as a separate decision and process.

Practical Information

Eligible families may qualify for 30 funded hours each week across 38 weeks of the year. Eligibility remains a condition, so this should not be read as an automatic entitlement for every nursery family.

Nursery application forms can be obtained through the school office, and parents may request a visit before applying. For enquiries, call 0151 677 3231 or email schooloffice@chapelhillprimary.co.uk. The setting is on Stavordale Road, Moreton. A visit offers families a way to consider the provision before submitting their application.
