Stories become something children can act out at Greasby Infant School's nursery. Simple props turn listening into participation, giving this provision for three- and four-year-olds a concrete introduction to books and storytelling. It is the school's own Nursery class, on Barker Lane in Greasby, Wirral.
Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 26 and 27 November 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Story time has a clear purpose here. In November 2024, children were absorbed by the stories they heard, then used props to recreate familiar tales. This gives children an active part in the experience: they can listen to a story and then take a role in telling it themselves. Books are a starting point for play.
Daily routines also support participation. Nursery children learned the school's expectations and became familiar with its routines quickly, allowing learning to continue with little interruption. For a parent considering a first experience of school, that combination of storytelling and predictable expectations is the clearest picture of the nursery's character.
Across early years, children showed enthusiasm for learning and wanted to share what they had learned with others in November 2024. Behaviour was exceptional from this stage onwards. These findings give substance to the picture of children taking part willingly, rather than simply following instructions.
Settling was a strength in November 2024: children adapted promptly to life in the Nursery class. Familiarity with rules and routines formed part of that adjustment, an encouraging finding for families concerned about the move into a school setting.
For special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), families can contact the school's special educational needs coordinator through the office or by email. The SEND page links to the SEND Policy 2025-2026 and SEND Report 2025-2026, alongside Wirral Local Offer. These provide named routes for families considering support and inclusion, with the coordinator offering a direct point of contact.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. The school's admissions page directs parents to Wirral School Admissions for the local procedure.
Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as separate tasks. Choosing this Nursery class means choosing its early experience of school, including stories and routines; it should not be treated as securing a later school place.
