Play, movement and conversation shape the early years at Goldsworth, with indoor and outdoor classrooms giving children different ways to explore. The nursery belongs to Goldsworth Primary School on Bridge Barn Lane in Woking; the October 2023 inspection described provision for two- and three-year-olds. Learning is planned from the start of Nursery.
Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 17 and 18 October 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), alongside Development Matters, guides the curriculum. In parent language, this means learning to communicate, manage feelings and move confidently, alongside exploring numbers, books, the world and creative activities. Planned play and practical experiences give children opportunities to try things and talk through their discoveries.
Movement has concrete resources behind it. The early years equipment includes scooters, trikes and climbing equipment, supporting balance and coordination. Smaller movements get attention through threading, cutting and working with clay or dough. Dough Disco is used regularly in early years, giving children practice with the hand movements that support later writing.
Counting, matching and sorting sit alongside exploring shapes and patterns. A role play area supplies everyday situations for trying out mathematical ideas. Creative learning includes dance, music and art, while observing plants and animals encourages children to describe changes and ask questions. These are different routes into learning, rather than a day built solely around sitting and listening.
In October 2023, Nursery staff supported communication effectively through their choice of activities and resources. Adults also selected activities to encourage purposeful exchanges with children. There was a wider curriculum reservation: some school subjects needed clearer essential content and more consistent teaching, followed by checks on what pupils retained. That concern was school-wide, rather than a separate nursery judgement.
Learning how to get along begins in Nursery. In October 2023, children were taught considerate ways to speak and resolve disagreements. This makes social learning part of the education itself, with language serving relationships as well as learning.
Across Goldsworth, teachers consider individual needs when planning and discuss concerns with their team and the special educational needs coordinator (SENDCo). Parents are involved in support and kept informed. For families whose child needs additional help, this provides a route for discussing concerns and contributing to the response.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Surrey County Council. For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026; that cycle has passed. Nursery attendance was not among the school's stated priority criteria for that intake, so it did not confer Reception priority.
Transition support is a separate matter. Before allocating classes, the school seeks a handover from children's nurseries. The All About Me and My Story forms also give families a way to explain their child's background. This helps staff get to know children before school starts, but does not change how places are allocated.
The school office handles enquiries through its contact form, admin@goldsworthprimary.co.uk or 01483 771321. Office hours are 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Visits to Goldsworth can be arranged by contacting the office, giving families an opportunity to discuss the provision in person.
