At a Glance

Daily number work, ambitious vocabulary and children willing to persevere give All Saints’ early years provision its character. This is the nursery attached to All Saints Church of England Primary School on Norreys Avenue in Wokingham. Children can start at the beginning of the term following the term in which they turn three.

At the Ofsted inspection on 7 and 8 November 2023, early years provision was judged Outstanding. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery. The school has a Church of England foundation, but families need not hold a religious faith; respect for other people’s beliefs is expected.

The Nursery Day

Language and mathematics give the learning a clear direction. In November 2023, children were learning challenging new words and bringing them into different activities. Counting and number use happened daily, while carefully designed activities developed understanding of patterns and shapes. For parents, this gives a concrete picture of early years learning: children practise language and mathematical ideas through the activities they do.

Adult guidance and children’s participation work together. The November 2023 findings described children absorbed in their activities, moving confidently between learning opportunities and becoming familiar with established routines. Adults provided carefully organised learning and effective support. Children also kept trying when tasks became difficult, giving perseverance a place alongside vocabulary and number skills.

Technology adds another practical element. Early years children have devices and remote-controlled toys to explore independently during play and learning. These are resources children can operate themselves, with opportunities to investigate simple technology rather than only watch an adult demonstrate it.

Care and Support

Care was a strength of the early years provision in November 2023: adults combined effective teaching support with caring relationships. The quick adoption of routines also matters for young children, helping them understand how their time in the provision works.

For additional needs, the school’s support structure brings teachers, the SENDCo and parents together. Classroom arrangements, adult help and learning resources can be adapted to a child’s needs. Specialist advice may be sought following consultation with parents. Families can raise concerns about learning or development through the school office, giving them a direct route into that support.

Nursery Lunch Club provides a specific meal arrangement: parents supply a packed lunch. It gives children a lunchtime option alongside nursery attendance, with booking handled through ParentPay.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal school admissions process. For September 2027 entry, the deadline is Friday 15 January 2027; the admissions route is through Wokingham Borough Council.

Classroom familiarity is a separate matter from admission. Across the school, children with additional needs can visit their next classroom and meet the teaching team, with individual support where needed. Teachers also exchange information about children’s needs when they change year groups. These arrangements support continuity of care and learning; they do not secure a place.

Practical Information

Nursery Lunch Club operates Monday to Friday, from 11.30am until 12.15pm. Places are booked online through ParentPay, and the club carries a separate charge. Contact the school for current charges.

Nursery registration is managed directly by the school, and parents can submit the nursery application form at any time. Admissions enquiries go to the office team at Admissions@allsaints.wokingham.sch.uk; the school telephone number is 0118 9787173.
