Nursery at Holme Grange School

A nursery day can extend from 7:30am to 6pm here, with a choice between attendance throughout the year and term time only. Little Grange is Holme Grange School’s provision for children aged two to four, on Heathlands Road in Wokingham. That combination gives families a school connection alongside a longer childcare day.
Little Grange is separately registered with Ofsted. Its nursery identity matters: the school’s ISI findings about Reception should not be treated as judgements about these younger children.
Exploration, creative activity and play form Little Grange’s approach to early learning. The emphasis is on children making discoveries and developing independence, rather than a description of formal lessons. These are the experiences around which families can picture the nursery day.
Attendance starts at two full days. Both term-time-only and year-round patterns are offered, with the nursery opening for 50 weeks. This gives children a recurring routine while allowing families to choose a pattern around their working year. Joining during the year is possible when there is space.
Toilet training is recommended before starting, with the team offering support as children adjust to nursery life. It is a recommendation, rather than an absolute entry requirement. Initial discussions involve parents, the Nursery Manager and the Headteacher, giving families a direct opportunity to explain their child’s needs.
The nursery registration form requests information about allergies, medical conditions, SEND and emotional or behavioural difficulties, including relevant assessments. That makes sharing care information part of joining. Across Holme Grange, food is cooked in the school kitchen, where chefs cater for allergies; this is relevant for families discussing dietary needs.
At the school’s September 2025 ISI inspection, incomplete governor suitability checks meant safeguarding and leadership standards were unmet. The school’s progress monitoring inspection on 26 March 2026 confirmed that all standards considered were met, including the checks on governors. These are school regulatory findings, rather than a nursery quality rating.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Treat Reception admission as a separate decision: the school’s route involves informal discussions with parents, the Nursery Manager and the Headteacher, rather than assuming attendance settles the question.
Practical preparation is more concrete. Little Grange children are invited to two activity sessions in the Reception classroom alongside its existing pupils. Reception staff also visit a child’s preschool or nursery to discuss their needs with staff in familiar surroundings. Parents have a teacher meeting in July. These steps introduce the people and classroom involved in the next stage; they do not establish an admissions advantage.
Funded hours. The early-years funding arrangement covers 15 hours for eligible three- and four-year-olds, starting in the term after their third birthday. Holme Grange offers these hours from 8:30am to 11:30am, subject to availability, across a 34-week school year. Optional additional services attract charges, so funding should be considered alongside the chosen attendance package.
