In November 2024, ice on a cold morning became something to investigate in Cuddington’s early years provision. Adults helped children pursue their interests and used discoveries as opportunities to learn. The nursery caters for two- to four-year-olds within Cuddington Community Primary School on Salisbury Road in Worcester Park. It is part of The Howard Partnership Trust, placing this first stage of education within a primary school rather than a separate childcare setting.
Play and supervised learning both have a place. In November 2024, the early years environment gave children opportunities to pursue their interests, with adults ready to help them develop an idea. Exploring ice was one example of learning prompted by the surrounding world. For parents, that gives a concrete picture of curiosity being taken seriously: a change in the weather can become the starting point for investigation.
Early reading also enters children’s play. Children in early years regularly rehearsed speech sounds during their activities, bringing practice into something they were already doing. The practical implication is that learning sounds is woven into play, rather than confined to a separate teaching moment.
Participation matters alongside exploration. Adults used communication techniques consistently in early years to help children understand activities and take part. Taken together, these details show a day in which following an interest and receiving adult guidance can sit alongside one another. Children have help to join the learning, as well as opportunities to pursue what catches their attention.
New children received individual help during supervised activities in November 2024. The same applied to children who needed extra support. This is a useful distinction for families: support was directed towards the child’s participation in an activity, giving them assistance during supervised learning activities.
Communication support also extended into early years. Consistent techniques reduced obstacles to understanding and participation, so a child’s difficulty communicating did not simply leave them outside the activity. These findings give parents of children with additional needs a relevant starting point: the emphasis was on helping children understand and join in, with individual assistance where needed.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Cuddington. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for school as two separate decisions.
The Howard Partnership Trust is the admissions authority for its schools. Being educated within the same school does not remove the need to apply again; families should keep the Reception application on their calendar while their child attends nursery.
The school’s address is Salisbury Road, Worcester Park, KT4 7DD, and its telephone number is 02087162677. This gives families a direct contact for nursery enquiries.
