Tuesday means Forest School for Hollymount’s three- and four-year-olds, while Nursery Tots spend their whole Tuesday session outdoors. Practical play gives this nursery its character. Provision covers ages two to four within Hollymount School in Worcester, with the youngest children occupying their own space inside Nursery, close enough to play alongside older children.
For children aged three to four, the planned intake is 39 per session. Nursery Tots has a planned eight to ten places per session for ages two to three, depending on children’s needs. These are session capacities, rather than a total nursery roll. Ofsted graded early years provision Good at the inspection on 6 and 7 June 2023; that judgement covers the school’s early years provision.
Play combines children’s choices with activities directed by adults. Nursery Tots choose what to do for much of their session, with construction, craft, role play and sand and water available indoors and outside. Older nursery children have a large indoor learning space and a large outdoor area for movement and exploring their surroundings. Singing, dance and messy investigations sit alongside this play.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together communication, movement and emotional development with early literacy, number, creative work and discovering the world. In parent terms, children practise expressing themselves, managing feelings, counting and exploring materials. Hollymount believes practical experiences, with children helping direct their learning, are the best way to learn.
Language work has a clear nursery focus. Letters and Sounds phase one develops listening through activities involving rhyme, rhythm and recognising sounds. In June 2023, nursery children used songs, rhymes and stories to expand their vocabulary, and practised listening for sounds. Children in Nursery also learned listening routines and played well together.
All About Me explores families, preferences and autumn changes. Spring brings What’s in my World?, including local surroundings, firefighters, doctors and farm animals. Tuesday Forest School requires clothes suitable for getting dirty and a spare outfit; wellingtons and waterproof all-in-ones support outdoor exploration.
Nursery Tots has key workers. For older nursery children, care includes practising everyday independence: managing belongings and learning to put on shoes and coats. These small tasks make self-care part of the session.
Parents can arrange a discussion with the school’s SEND coordinators through the office. School staff can also translate letters on request, giving families who use other languages a practical way to understand communications.
Before children join, families provide health information, dietary needs, allergies and emergency contacts. An agreed-adults collection form identifies who may collect each child. The wider school has a separate dining hall producing freshly cooked food each day; this is a school facility rather than a statement about nursery meal entitlement.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority and meet the normal application deadline. For Worcestershire residents, the route is Worcestershire County Council school admissions. Treat that application as a separate task, even while your child attends Nursery.
Morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am, and afternoon sessions from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. Places must be taken Monday to Friday. Children under three cannot attend full-day sessions here, which matters when planning working hours.
For three- and four-year-olds, the basic 15-hour offer starts in the term after their third birthday. There are also 30-hour places for families eligible for funding or paying for provision. Nursery Tots accepts children after their second birthday through eligible Early Years Funding or paid sessions. Contact the school for current charges.
Nursery application forms go to the office with the appropriate childcare code. Families apply for codes themselves and must meet the termly redemption deadlines.
