At a Glance

Three nursery rooms mark the stages here: Happy Hearts for two-year-olds, Happy Explorers from the term after children's third birthday and Early Explorers for the pre-school year. This is Oasis Academy Warndon's own nursery provision in Worcester. Children can start Happy Hearts from the term following their second birthday, then move between rooms according to age, with parents kept informed. Joining a later room is also possible without attending the earlier ones.

Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Outstanding at its inspection on 15 and 16 November 2022. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.

The Nursery Day

The first moon landing and initial letter sounds give a flavour of learning here. In November 2022, nursery children were excited by the moon landing, while learning letter sounds gave them an early start towards reading. These are concrete examples of curiosity and early literacy sitting alongside each other.

Learning in the early years foundation stage includes ambitious vocabulary: in November 2022, children encountered concepts such as gravity. The curriculum identified what children should learn and retain, including those starting with very little prior knowledge. Early years children also showed unusually sustained attention and enthusiasm during lessons. For parents, the picture is of learning that stretches children's understanding as well as introducing reading.

A sensory room forms part of the nursery's physical provision. It gives sensory support a space of its own within the setting.

Care and Support

Starting patterns can be discussed with the early years team. Families may choose one or two sessions each week initially and seek more later, subject to availability. This allows attendance to build in stages rather than requiring the same starting pattern for every child.

Early Explorers has a SENDCO whom parents can approach about individual needs. Staff are willing to pursue relevant training where possible and involve other agencies in supporting children and families.

Support before starting. A child who needs specific medical training or individual safety support may have their start delayed until suitable staffing is secured. Parents are kept involved throughout that process, so arranging the support is part of planning the start date.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Worcestershire's normal school admissions process, by the deadline for their child's intake.

For the 2027-2028 admissions cycle, attending the nursery gives no Reception priority. The criteria instead concern care status, siblings, catchment, qualifying staff connections and distance. Choosing these nursery rooms therefore remains a decision about the early years experience, rather than securing the next school place.

Practical Information

Care is term time only, with flexible sessions within Monday to Friday opening hours of 7:30am to 6pm. Afternoon sessions run from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. Lunch periods and wraparound care can be requested when applying. Additional or occasional sessions need the school's agreement.

Government childcare funding is accepted, with eligibility differing between entitlements. Payments for charged attendance are made in advance, with a minimum session length of three hours. Charges continue during absence. Ask the school for current charges and discuss the funded hours applicable to your child before choosing sessions.

For nursery enquiries or a tour, email admin@oasiswarndon.org or telephone 01905453530. A visit can help families assess the rooms alongside the session pattern they need.
