Morning, afternoon or a longer day: Perry Wood’s nursery has three weekday patterns for its three to four year old room. This is the school’s own nursery at St Albans Close in Worcester. The session allocations are distinct: 24 spaces for the morning option, 24 for the afternoon and 10 for the longer day. Those figures describe the options, rather than a single nursery roll.
For families choosing between a short session and a day spanning lunchtime, that distinction matters. The two shorter patterns each carry 15 funded hours across the week; the longer option carries 30. Eligibility for the additional funded hours is conditional.
A morning runs from 8:45am until 11:45am, while afternoon children attend from 12:30pm until 3:30pm. The longer pattern begins at 8:45am and finishes at 3:30pm, with lunch between 11:45am and 12:30pm. This gives the day a clear midday break between its shorter sessions.
Read Write Inc is used across the school’s early years provision to teach phonics. Children learn in small groups at a level matched to their ability, making the grouping relevant to their stage of learning. For children needing help with communication, classroom strategies include visual prompts, repeated instructions and breaking instructions into smaller steps. These give children different ways to understand what they are being asked to do.
Support for special educational needs and disabilities follows a staged process: assessing needs, planning help, putting it into practice and reviewing progress. Parents contribute to agreeing the support and its intended outcome. Reviews happen after an intervention or at least once each term, so the plan can change as a child’s needs develop.
Teachers and support staff receive continuing training connected to supporting children with SEN. The school can also draw on specialist services, including speech and language therapy and educational psychology. For a family with developmental concerns, the SEND coordinator can be contacted through the school office or at send@perrywood.worcs.sch.uk.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer admissions priority. For 2027/28 entry, nursery children are assessed against the same oversubscription criteria as other applicants. Familiarity with the school therefore remains separate from the allocation of a place.
Parents must make a new Reception application through their home local authority, using its Common Application Form and meeting the deadline that authority gives. Worcestershire residents use Worcestershire County Council’s admissions service.
For children with SEN changing classes within the school, transition support includes a meeting to pass information to the new teacher and opportunities to meet that teacher or visit the new class. These arrangements support the change of classroom; they do not affect admissions entitlement.
All three session options run Monday to Friday. Funding is term-time only: three year olds can take up 15 hours each week, while some children with working parents qualify for 30 hours. Funding begins in the term following the child’s birthday and covers approximately 38 weeks, dependent on Worcestershire’s term dates.
The school office provides nursery information and funding eligibility guidance. Nursery enquiries can be made on 01905 354800. Families planning their week should distinguish the longer attendance window from its 30 funded hours: the timetable includes a separate lunchtime period.

No. The 2027/28 arrangements give nursery attendance no priority and no guarantee of a place. Parents must apply separately through their home local authority by its deadline.
