At a Glance

Shared lunches, school assemblies and specialist-led play give this nursery a clear school connection from the start. RGS Dodderhill Nursery welcomes boys and girls aged 2 to 4 within the school grounds in Droitwich Spa. It operates in term time. Children wear Dodderhill polo shirts and join older pupils for meals and assemblies, so their day extends beyond the nursery group.

The emphasis is on learning through play, with outdoor exploration and creative activities alongside familiar routines. For families choosing a school nursery, that combination is the practical attraction: a nursery base with opportunities to take part in the wider school's life.

The Nursery Day

Free play alternates with activities in groups and shared routines. Messy play, stories, dance and music sit alongside time outdoors each day. Children have opportunities to explore independently as well as join others, giving the day both choice and structure. The nursery aims to help children feel calm and secure through a structured routine that builds familiarity and trust.

The early years foundation stage (EYFS) brings learning and development together through these activities. In the November 2024 inspection, ISI found that early years teaching covered the required learning areas, with activities planned around individual developmental needs. Staff conversations helped children build their language skills. During one nursery outdoor session, children discussed seasonal changes, listened closely and answered questions with confidence. Outdoor learning therefore provided something concrete to observe and talk about.

French and Ballet join Music, PE and Forest School through specialist teaching. Physical development also runs through smaller tasks: in November 2024, early years children made bird feeders by putting cereal onto pipe cleaners, practising the hand movements needed for increasingly precise work. PE developed larger movements and stamina.

Indoors, a nursery café role-play area introduced ideas about money through pretend play. Music offered another kind of shared learning: early years children played shakers together, with adults helping them wait for a turn and include others. These are practical beginnings for conversation, coordination and playing together.

Care and Support

Familiar adults and planning for each child supported early years children's emotional security in November 2024. Relationships with parents helped staff respond to individual needs, connecting home knowledge with nursery care. Appropriate early years staffing ratios were maintained, and staff with paediatric first-aid training supported the children.

Lunch is a shared school experience. RGS Dodderhill uses a menu that rotates over three weeks, with fresh fruit and a salad bar available daily. Lunches are included in school fees where dining is compulsory, including at Dodderhill; opting out does not bring a discount.

Pastoral records. In November 2024, leaders across the school needed to make oversight of pastoral concerns and responses more efficient because records were held in several places. This was a school-wide improvement point, relevant to how concerns are tracked and followed through.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Ask the Admissions Team to confirm the Reception application process and any deadline before making plans.

Sharing meals and assemblies gives children experience of the wider school, but those everyday connections should not be treated as an admissions advantage.

Practical Information

Two term-time patterns are offered. Full-day children can arrive between 7.45 am and 8.40 am, with collection between 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm. Morning children use the same arrival window and leave at 1.00 pm. Holiday Club provision for Dodderhill nursery children is at RGS The Grange, which means holiday care involves a different setting.

Government funding of between 15 and 30 hours is offered for children aged 2+ until the term in which they turn 5, subject to prevailing Government rules and attendance on at least two days each week. Contact the school for current charges.

Enquiries can be made through the enquiry form or by calling 01905 778290. School-day tours can be requested through the admissions portal. On-site parking supports drop-off and collection.
