Kids Wreck

At a Glance

Conversation, planting and outdoor ball games shaped the day at Kids Wreck in April 2025. Staff joined children's play and introduced new vocabulary, making ordinary activities opportunities to practise speaking and listening.

At its 1 April 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good and judged safeguarding effective. Kids Wreck has 49 places in total, at 32b Victory Road, Little Lever, Bolton BL3 1QY; children attending in April 2025 were aged 0 to 4.

The Nursery Experience

In April 2025, children planted seeds, explored what plants need and used tweezers to retrieve wool worms from compost. These activities combined learning about growth with practice handling small objects. Outdoor ball games also gave children opportunities to encourage their friends.

The early years foundation stage sets the framework for children's learning, development and care. Here, the April 2025 examples included conversation, stories, movement and sensory play: children made marks in sand and encountered vocabulary about eels and scuba divers through an ocean activity.

Children had time to pursue their interests. Mathematics entered play through comparisons between pebbles and block towers, although younger children did not consistently receive concrete examples to help them understand quantities. Number teaching needed refinement.

Care and Support

In April 2025, babies explored in a calm room, while children sought closeness with staff during stories and shared their achievements with them. Practitioners adjusted their help to individual children rather than using the same response for everyone.

A key person linked home and nursery, with information moving both ways. Settling sessions were shaped around families' needs, and learning reviews and tasks for home extended that exchange. Children practised finding their belongings and tidying together, giving them everyday responsibilities.

Lunch offered less scope for independence. In April 2025, adults served meals to children rather than enabling them to help themselves, and suitable cutlery was sometimes missing. That reduced opportunities to serve themselves and practise cutting food.

Practical Information

The address is 32b Victory Road, Little Lever, Bolton BL3 1QY.

In April 2025, the nursery operated on weekdays throughout the year, closing for a week over Christmas. Its session window ran from 7.30am to 6pm. These are the arrangements at that date.

Government-funded childcare was provided from nine months of age in April 2025. That establishes participation at the time, rather than an individual family's entitlement.

Things to Consider

  • Early number learning. April 2025 teaching did not consistently make quantities concrete for younger children. During a visit, ask how practitioners now use objects to help children understand numbers.
  • Independence at lunch. Serving arrangements and access to cutlery restricted practice in April 2025. Look for opportunities for children to portion food and use suitable utensils themselves.
  • Attendance and costs. The April 2025 session window was 7.30am to 6pm. Before committing, ask which booking patterns and funded-hours arrangements apply now, and request a written quotation covering meals and consumables.

The Verdict

Kids Wreck suits families who value conversation, hands-on play and close communication through a key person. The April 2025 picture gives those priorities substance through planting, sensory activities and family learning reviews. The two practical tests are how number teaching has been refined and how lunch now supports independence.
