A spider became the starting point for a nursery-wide minibeast project at Child's Play Neighbourhood Nursery. That June 2025 example captures the appeal: staff used children's curiosity to build a shared learning experience rather than letting an unexpected interest pass.
At its 26 June 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good and judged safeguarding effective. Based at Leytop Family Centre in Allerton, Bradford, it has capacity for 36 children, with a current age range of 36 to 60 months.
In June 2025, learning followed the early years foundation stage, the framework for children's learning, development and care: play, conversation and practical activities supported development indoors and outside. Staff adapted activities around what interested children, including the spider-inspired project.
Stories supplied another starting point. In June 2025, children enjoyed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, while staff gave them thinking time before answering questions. This made conversation part of learning rather than a test of who could answer fastest.
Physical activities included stretching through yoga, digging and carrying heavy water jugs. Children also grew and washed raspberries, connecting food with practical experience. These June 2025 examples brought movement, coordination and everyday understanding into the day.
At the June 2025 inspection, Ofsted found that children formed trusting relationships with staff and that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities made excellent progress, supported by observation and assessment that helped staff identify developmental gaps.
In June 2025, settling arrangements adapted to each child, drawing on information from families and including stay-and-play opportunities. Staff comforted upset children and used visual prompts to help them recognise and manage feelings.
Parents received developmental updates through an app and conversations, including discussion of routines and next steps. Family support also extended to access to a food bank when needed. These were practical forms of partnership in June 2025, reaching beyond activity updates.
Food at that time included home-made meals, fruit and drinking water; staff also worked with families whose children brought packed lunches. Mealtimes were the weaker point: older children sometimes became restless during lengthy gaps between courses, reducing opportunities for shared learning.
The address is Leytop Family Centre, Allerton, Bradford, BD15 7PQ. The current attendance calendar is term-time, with school-holiday closures and opening hours of 8.40am to 3.15pm, Monday to Friday.
In June 2025, the nursery offered government-funded childcare. The inspection-time timetable extended across school holidays, so the attendance calendar deserves attention when planning care.
Child's Play suits families seeking term-time preschool care who value learning built around children's interests. The June 2025 examples give that approach substance: a shared minibeast project, thoughtful conversation and practical growing activities. The care timetable and mealtime organisation are the key points to resolve before choosing it.
