Storytelling, movement and growing independence shaped children's experiences at Tots Treehouse Day Nursery in July 2024. Based at Village Hall in Goffs Oak, it has capacity for 32 children in total. At its July 2024 inspection, Ofsted judged it Good, found safeguarding effective and praised support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Children attending in July 2024 were aged two to four. The strongest examples from that period combine imaginative play with practical skills: acting out stories, pouring drinks and learning to manage shoes themselves.
In July 2024, children explored We're Going on a Bear Hunt through acted storytelling. A lending library helped extend their interest in books, while football coaching and storytelling drama sessions added different ways to participate. These experiences brought language and movement into the same nursery day.
The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care. Here, the July 2024 activities illustrate that through play: removing sticker backing for animal masks exercised fingers, while painting with water outdoors developed movements useful for writing.
Physical play also had substance. In July 2024, children tackled an obstacle course; a ball pool and bouncy castle featured in the end-of-term celebration. Running, balancing and climbing gave them opportunities to practise larger movements alongside the finer work with stickers and brushes.
In July 2024, staff helped children recognise emotions and find ways to handle them. Circle time included learning other children's names, giving social relationships a practical starting point. Praise helped children take pleasure in what they had achieved.
Communication with families included updates about children and ideas for continuing learning at home in July 2024. Staff also worked with parents towards developmental milestones. Handwashing routines and conversations about fruit connected everyday care with children's understanding of healthy choices.

In July 2024, attendance followed the school terms, with opening hours of 9.15am to 3.15pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9.15am to 1.15pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday. That timetable matters for families arranging care around work: the shorter days require a different plan from the two longer days.
