A covered sand pit, a garden boat and sheltered decking for babies give Little Foxes, Garston a clear outdoor character. The adapted end terrace on Island Road makes room for active play and quieter moments with books, while weekly library and park outings extend children's experiences beyond the nursery.
The nursery cares for children from birth to five and has 60 places in total. At its March 2022 inspection, Ofsted rated it Good overall, with an improvement point about matching planned learning more closely to children's existing abilities. That judgement belongs to 2022; it is useful context rather than a current assessment of daily practice.
Flexible hours sit alongside an opening window of 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with year-round operation excluding bank holidays.
The baby room occupies the lower level, with patio doors connecting it to fenced decking beneath a canopy, giving younger children their own route between indoor play and a sheltered outdoor space. For a family choosing baby care, that separation from older children's garden activity is a useful physical feature.
Above it, two rooms accommodate the different areas of learning. The building therefore spreads children's activities across levels, while the garden adds space for movement, stories and outdoor eating.
EYFS is the shared early-years framework here: children develop communication, movement, social skills and early understanding through play, conversation and practical activities. Stories and songs support language; number, shape and pattern play introduces mathematics; art, music and imaginative play give children ways to express ideas.
Alongside this sits the group-wide Play to Progress Curriculum, which combines activities guided by adults with exploration directed by children. Its practical themes include caring for the environment, understanding feelings and preparing for school through independence, name recognition and everyday tasks. These additions are described in the learning and development programme.
The emphasis on school preparation is concrete rather than an admissions promise. Recognising a name and managing familiar tasks are useful steps towards greater independence. Staff also observe children's interests and adapt activities, making the balance between free play and adult guidance central to the learning model.
A large garden contains a boat in the soft play area, a roofed sand pit, all-weather grass and a reading chill zone. Benches and a picnic bench support quieter use of the garden as well as energetic play. A pram storage unit accommodates prams and car seats, a practical benefit for families travelling with young children.
Weekly visits to the library and local park take learning beyond the building. Books and outdoor exploration have a place both inside the nursery grounds and in the surrounding community.
In March 2022, babies explored an outdoor sandpit, older children used wheeled toys, and an activity involved finding frozen balls in the garden and breaking them on the ground. These examples show how movement and investigation featured in the nursery day at that time. They also give parents a more concrete picture than a general promise of learning through play.
At the March 2022 inspection, Ofsted found effective safeguarding arrangements, strong key-person relationships that helped babies settle, and prompt identification of children needing additional support, with outside agencies involved. Those are dated findings, covering both relationships and the response when a child needed more help.
Regular updates, parent consultations and an open-door policy provide current routes for communication. The group-wide Brain Box portal shares learning experiences online and supports activities at home, giving families a way to connect nursery learning with their child's interests outside it.
In March 2022, daily conversations and a nursery app were used to communicate with parents. Families also received guidance about healthy eating and toothbrushing. This was communication about everyday care as well as learning, rather than progress information alone.
The group-wide Baby Yoga and Mindfulness offer includes baby yoga and daily mindfulness practice. In March 2022, babies and toddlers took part in yoga and massage, while older children used The Colour Monster story to explore feelings and a mindfulness room provided space for quiet relaxation.
Chef-prepared meals are supplied each day, with dietary requirements such as vegetarian and gluten-free diets catered for. Pin-coded entrances and exits and manager-monitored CCTV are physical security arrangements; their presence should be understood separately from the dated safeguarding judgement.
The address is 23 Island Road, Garston, Liverpool, L19 1RL. Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays, and the nursery operates throughout the year except bank holidays. Flexible hours are offered, allowing families to organise attendance around their schedules.
An enquiry form takes a proposed start date and the days required. Tours can also be requested, and a parent pack can be sent to families. These provide practical starting points for arranging care.
The A561 provides road access, and Liverpool South Parkway is just a few minutes walk away. Prams and car seats can be stored in the garden's storage unit.
Funded childcare includes Working Family Funding (30 hours), 2 year old funding (15 hours) and the 15 universal hours for children aged three or four, subject to eligibility. Funding is stretched across 52 weeks, spreading the entitlement through the year rather than concentrating its use in school terms.
Fees are annualised into equal monthly invoices, excluding extra sessions. Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation. The funding and fees information separates funded education from additional charges.
For funded hours, meals, nappies and wipes are charged separately when supplied by the nursery. These charges are optional and itemised: parents may instead supply a packed lunch and their own consumables. Funded hours carry no top-up fee, so the distinction between education and the items supplied alongside it matters when comparing the total bill.
Little Foxes, Garston suits families who value outdoor play, a sheltered outdoor space for babies and practical links between nursery and home learning. Its flexible-hours offer and year-round opening are useful for parents arranging care around changing schedules. The garden features and weekly outings give it a recognisable character; the dated Good judgement and planning improvement point provide a balanced starting point for assessing the learning experience.
Ofsted rated the nursery Good at its inspection on 23 March 2022. The improvement point was to plan learning more precisely around children's existing abilities and next steps.
It cares for children from birth to five and has 60 places in total. The lower-level baby room connects to sheltered, fenced decking, with two learning rooms on the level above.
