Outdoor exploration gives Muddy Footprints its clearest character: in July 2022, children spent much of their day outside, noticing moving branches, investigating sand and developing their own play ideas. Physical activity was woven into play, with large tyres and a steep bank providing climbing challenges.
Ofsted rated the nursery Good on 14 July 2022. Muddy Footprints has capacity for 30 children at Garston Adventure Playground in Liverpool; children attending at the July 2022 visit were aged two to four.
In July 2022, open-ended materials let children shape their play rather than follow a single prescribed activity. Blankets became den walls, while threading fruit onto sticks involved smaller, more precise movements. These examples show how large movements and finger control could feature in the same day.
The early years foundation stage is the framework for children's learning, development and care. In July 2022, everyday experiences brought that learning into practical situations: children counted strawberries at lunch, recognised numbers in a game and noticed the shape of a sandwich.
Stories and familiar songs also featured that July. Children requested favourite books and shared new vocabulary with friends, including explaining the purpose of a parasol. Outings supplied experiences to talk about afterwards: children recalled a train journey and what they had seen from its driver's seat.
At the July 2022 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and praised SEND support, including staff training and specialist advice that helped children make progress. This was a dated judgement about practice at that visit.
In July 2022, staff helped children find ways to handle difficult emotions and shared strategies parents could use at home. Independence was practised through ordinary routines: children prepared the lunch table, washed their hands and learnt to manage toileting and nose wiping. These were concrete opportunities to practise personal care.
Professional development also featured in July 2022, with staff taking part in training and receiving support for their wellbeing. Staff knew children's interests and used them to plan activities, although teaching did not consistently change quickly enough when individual children disengaged.
The address is Garston Adventure Playground, Bowden Road, Garston Liverpool, L19 1QP.

Muddy Footprints suits families who value outdoor exploration and practical independence.
