Music brought another precise example. Children sang, explored instrumental sounds, counted guitar strings and learned the word plectrum. Stories and independent reading added sustained listening and respect for books, so early literacy was supported through both adult-led attention and children's own choices.

In September 2022, children showed ease and confidence around the adults caring for them. Staff knew them well, celebrated individuality and supported home languages. Parents told the inspector they valued settling arrangements, communication and the progress their children made. Support for home languages helped staff connect nursery learning with children's identities and family lives rather than treating language differences as a barrier.

Safeguarding was effective at the inspection. Staff understood how to raise welfare concerns, received regular training, and recruitment and induction checks were in place. Children also practised everyday independence and healthy choices by selecting fruit, pouring drinks and learning to use stairs and outdoor spaces safely. At snack and lunch, serving themselves with support made care routines part of learning. This is more informative than a general promise of independence because it shows children handling real tasks.

In September 2022, staff sometimes stepped into disputes too quickly. Its recommendation was to create more opportunities for children to negotiate solutions, alongside richer teaching about emotions and the words used to express feelings.
