Spinduliukas is a small Barking nursery where bilingual English and Lithuanian practice gives the setting a clear identity. It has capacity for 32 children at 132 Lambourne Road, Barking, IG11 9QA. At its January 2024 inspection, Ofsted judged it Good across education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
The strongest picture from that visit was of happy, confident children with close relationships to staff. Children made good progress from their starting points, and safeguarding arrangements were effective. The inspection also set one precise next step: practitioners needed to deepen how they support the youngest children's communication and language.
In January 2024, staff planned from children's interests and development rather than running disconnected activities. That meant practical experiences with a purpose: children passed a large spatula while putting pizzas into a pretend clay oven, explored foamy water, climbed, drew, rode bicycles and scooters, and moved to music. Physical development covered both careful hand movements and larger-body control.
The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, which means play and adult-guided experiences build communication, physical development, relationships, literacy and early mathematics towards the next stage of learning. Inspectors saw staff using mathematical language and careful counting. Preschool children also prepared peppers, cucumber and feta cheese for a snack-time salad, combining independence with fine-motor practice.
English and Lithuanian shape the educational offer. Staff sang nursery rhymes in children's home languages as well as English, helping children learn English while recognising their own identities.
Relationships were a substantial strength in January 2024. Children separated confidently from parents, staff modelled respectful behaviour, and children shared resources, waited their turn and treated one another kindly. Strong parent partnerships kept families informed and gave them ideas for continuing learning at home.
Safeguarding was effective at the inspection, with an open and positive culture centred on children's interests. The communication point matters for families with very young children: inspectors found that frequent dummy use during play reduced some children's opportunities to practise speaking.
The nursery is at 132 Lambourne Road in Barking and has capacity for 32 children. Families should seek a current written quotation directly from the nursery.
Spinduliukas suits families drawn to a small setting with English-Lithuanian practice, warm relationships and practical learning. The January 2024 Good judgement rests on useful detail rather than a label alone: children were confident, considerate and making progress. The clear caveat is early communication, especially for the youngest children, and families should test how the nursery has developed that work since the inspection.
Ofsted judged the nursery Good in January 2024. Children made good progress, developed strong relationships and behaved kindly, while safeguarding arrangements were effective.
Spinduliukas has capacity for 32 children in total.
The nursery teaches in English and Lithuanian. In January 2024, staff also used children's home languages in nursery rhymes and built early mathematics, physical development and independence through practical activities.
Practitioners were asked to extend their understanding of how to support the youngest children's communication and language, including reducing missed opportunities for speaking practice.
The nursery is at 132 Lambourne Road, Barking, IG11 9QA.
