Kind, responsive relationships were the clearest strength at Busy Bees Mill Hill when Ofsted visited in October 2024. The regulatory picture has since changed. Following a notification in April 2026, Ofsted visited in June and found that some requirements were not being met. The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the areas of learning, goals and assessment points that shape children's progress. In October 2024, staff built on children's interests through play, introducing knowledge and vocabulary rather than directing every activity. A hedgehog project moved from dough and clay to new words and information, then into making a hedgehog house in the garden. Singing, stories, conversation and story sacks extended communication and early literacy between nursery and home.

Independence was practical. Older children put on their own coats in preparation for school, while self-portraits prompted discussion of similarities and differences in eyes, skin and hair. Daily outdoor play, oral-hygiene activities and nutritious meals supported healthy choices. One imaginative sequence linked apples and sweets with children pretending to ride tricycles to the shops, turning health messages into purposeful play. The report's single improvement point was equally practical: staff needed to help children understand behavioural boundaries more consistently so that self-regulation developed further.

At the 2024 inspection, baby-room staff organised the day around each baby's sleep routine. Staff worked with parents to keep home and nursery care consistent, and inspectors found children secure, valued and able to form affectionate bonds. Progress checks also led to targeted work with parents and other professionals, including for children with SEND. Parents described happy, settled children whose confidence and speech had developed. Leaders gathered the views of parents, staff and children, while supervision, training and professional development gave practitioners structured support. Those systems offer useful context for why the 2024 picture was positive, but they also make the later requirements about training and records important to resolve.

The June 2026 notice is more immediate. Required action covered safeguarding knowledge, targeted teaching support, room ratios and staff deployment, drinking water, safe eating, baby handling, hygiene, sleeping arrangements, daily risk assessments and records of concerns. These are substantial operational matters, not minor paperwork, and their resolution is central to a current decision.

The nursery is on Millway in Mill Hill and accepts children from three months to five years. It offers full-day care and half-day sessions across the year, with bank-holiday closures. Families should request the current attendance pattern and nursery-specific written quotation directly before comparing it with other settings.

Busy Bees Mill Hill had a convincing educational and relationship-based core in October 2024: responsive staff, individual baby sleep routines, language-rich play and purposeful independence. Yet the unresolved June 2026 welfare notice changes the decision. It may suit families seeking either full-day care or half-day sessions, especially those who value interest-led learning and close home-to-nursery continuity, but they should consider the setting only after obtaining clear evidence that Ofsted's required actions have been completed and sustained.
