Independence had real substance. In April 2022, children tidied toys, helped lay the lunch table, served food with tongs and spoons, and poured water from jugs. Dressing, toileting and handwashing added further daily practice. Those ordinary jobs gave children repeated experience of coordination, responsibility and self-care, rather than reserving independence for a planned activity.

Clear routines and positive adult role-modelling supported good behaviour. Children were energetic and motivated to investigate, while stories and conversation connected new words with familiar experiences. The mix matters: physical confidence, language and curiosity developed together rather than in isolated exercises.

Relationships were a clear strength at the April 2022 inspection. Children formed close bonds and settled quickly into routines, while staff used books, stories, songs and conversation to build language. Care remained attentive through meals, personal care and rest. Staff helped children relax at quieter points in the day with gentle, familiar reassurance.

The same inspection found safeguarding arrangements effective. Staff understood how to respond to concerns and allegations, supervised children closely, and suitability checks formed part of management practice. Parent partnership was less complete. A curriculum workshop and newsletter had followed parent feedback, yet inspectors wanted more opportunities for families to contribute to learning. Staff also needed to extend children's thinking with more consistent challenge. These are practical improvement points: richer information from home can sharpen planning, while better follow-up questions can move an interesting activity beyond first discovery.

Leadership had built induction, support and training that helped staff understand their roles. The October 2025 regulatory outcome adds important later context. After a notification involving food and drink and the reporting of safety and welfare concerns, Ofsted found that some requirements had not been met; it also recorded that procedures were improved and staff received further training to put matters right.
