Ready Steady Grow Pre-School

Ready Steady Grow Pre-School is a sessional early-years setting with a clear strength in helping children belong. Ofsted judged it Good in February 2025, finding Good education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. It has 50 places in total at St. Marys Church on Worlds End Lane in Orpington.

The inspection gives the clearest picture of daily life. Children encouraged friends through physical challenges, explored early mathematics and took an active interest in books. This is a pre-school where learning is practical and social, rather than confined to one kind of activity.

Learning and Named Experiences

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum combines play with adult-guided experiences across communication, physical development, early literacy, mathematics, and personal and social confidence. Planning began with what staff knew about each child and was designed to move their learning forward.

The February 2025 inspection supplies useful examples. Younger children counted up to five objects and identified circles and squares. Older children counted dots on a dice, used weighing scales and learned language such as heavy and light. Staff used story props, while children turned pages and studied illustrations. These are small details, but together they show adults adapting early concepts rather than presenting every child with the same task.

Physical development had similar purpose. Children chose whether to travel over or under a bridge in an obstacle course, then developed hand-to-eye coordination by throwing beanbags into hoops placed progressively farther away. Music-and-movement sessions added singing, ribbons and movement. A farm visit and family pictures were also used to widen children's experiences.

Ofsted's two improvement points matter. Group activities need stronger planning for children who hesitate to join in, and children need more opportunities to handle natural materials and extend their understanding of the world. Families can use both points to frame a focused visit conversation.

Relationships are a convincing part of the inspection picture. Staff supported children's individual emotional needs, promoted friendships and helped children feel valued. During physical play, children clapped and cheered one another and invited friends to join. Outdoors, they waited for the slide, while a timer helped explain tidying and the change to the next activity. That combination gives young children both warmth and predictable boundaries.

At the February 2025 inspection, children with special educational needs and/or disabilities were moving forward well relative to where they began. Staff assessed progress regularly and worked with parents, professionals and schools to plan support and transitions. Story props and repeated words were used with children needing speech-and-language help; parents of children who speak English as an additional language also reported good communication progress.

Ofsted found safeguarding arrangements effective in February 2025. This is a dated regulatory finding rather than a promise about future practice.

The setting is at St. Marys Church, Worlds End Lane, Orpington, BR6 6AG, and provides childcare on non-domestic premises. Its subtype is sessional day care. A sessional classification does not establish whether a morning session, afternoon session or another pattern can be booked. Current session times and the accepted age range therefore remain questions for the setting.

• Attendance details. The current session menu, clock times, minimum booking pattern and year pattern need to be documented before a family decides whether the provision fits work and family routines.
• Costs and daily provision. Request a written breakdown of funded-entitlement participation, meals and non-food consumables. These categories can materially change the practical cost.

Ready Steady Grow Pre-School's strongest documented quality is the way learning, movement and relationships connect. The Good February 2025 inspection shows children counting, weighing, reading, exercising and encouraging friends, while staff adapt support for individual needs. The two improvement points are specific and sensible questions for a visit rather than reasons to overlook the setting.

It is best suited to families seeking sessional early-years care with practical mathematics, books, movement and inclusive support. However, the evidence does not establish two different attendance patterns, so the current booking model needs to fit the family before an application is made.
