Rainbow Nursery

Rainbow Nursery combines a calm atmosphere with imaginative, purposeful play. Ofsted judged it Good in January 2025, finding effective safeguarding and children who were kind, respectful and absorbed in their learning. The setting at St. Benet's Church Hall, Lupton Street, London NW5 2HY, has capacity for 36 children aged one to four.

Its strongest feature is the substance of the day. Children investigated dinosaurs, made colour potions while recalling emotions from The Colour Monster, built castles and towers together, and concentrated over birthday cakes made in sand. Weekly music added dance, musical vocabulary and sounds from different cultures.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the framework for this English setting: it connects play and care routines with progress in communication, physical development, personal development and early learning. In January 2025, staff knew their key children well and planned from their interests and next steps. Conversation, new vocabulary, engaging stories and accessible books gave language and reading particular weight.

The outdoor area expands that experience. Children could collect eggs from chickens, hear stories around a real fire pit, and grow and pick fruit and vegetables. Building castles and towers called for cooperation, while the sand activity held children's concentration for long periods. Weekly music sessions went beyond singing: children performed dance moves confidently and learned vocabulary for music and sounds from different cultures.

That balance matters. Stories, construction, music, growing and animal care give children several routes into language and shared play. These examples show children finding sustained purpose in play, although the inspection's age-adaptation point means the experience was not yet equally effective for every child.

Strong attachments between staff and their key children were central to the January 2025 findings. Staff used what they knew about each child's interests and next learning steps to select experiences, giving the key-person relationship an educational as well as emotional purpose. Children learned to wait and take turns, and their sustained cooperative play showed that those expectations carried into activities. Routines such as washing hands, preparing for outdoor play and serving lunch developed independence. Parents also praised settling support, regular communication, caring staff and opportunities to join events or read stories.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective at the inspection, within an open culture centred on children's interests. Ofsted nevertheless asked leaders to adapt planning and routines more consistently for younger children and create more opportunities to practise gross motor skills. A later regulatory record followed a notification about staff-to-child ratios. Ofsted recorded that the provider had put the unmet requirement right through retraining on supervision during transitions and training on individual needs, including special educational needs; the setting remained registered.

This is a private, full-day-care provider on non-domestic premises. The setting operates from St. Benet's Church Hall on Lupton Street in Camden. It cares for children from 12 to 60 months and has 36 places in total. Current nursery-specific prices should be set out in a written quotation. Parents comparing the setting need the total structure, not a headline figure: attendance pattern, funded entitlement, meals, consumables and notice terms can all affect the practical fit.

• Younger children's routines. Ofsted asked for planning and routines to be adapted more effectively for the youngest children. Families of one-year-olds should explore how the daily rhythm now differs by age.
• Physical development. More planned gross-motor practice was an inspection priority. Ask what regular large-movement experiences now supplement the spacious outdoor area.
• Supervision changes. A May 2025 regulatory record says retraining corrected an unmet requirement involving supervision and transitions. Families may want the nursery to explain how those revised procedures work day to day.
• Attendance and costs. Discuss the attendance pattern, funded-hours position, meals, consumables and notice terms together before accepting a place, so the written quotation reflects the care required.

Rainbow Nursery is best suited to families who value story-rich conversation, imaginative projects and an unusually varied outdoor experience. The Good inspection provides recent reassurance, while its improvement points and later supervision action deserve a direct conversation. It will suit parents drawn to a full-day-care setting who also want warmth, books, music, growing and animal care to carry real weight. Families seeking a part-day pattern should judge fit only after discussing the nursery's current attendance offer.
