Bonitots Bilingual Nursery and Pre-School

Spanish and English run through the learning at Bonitots. Ofsted rated the nursery Good in April 2022, when children moved confidently between both languages and formed positive relationships with staff. The setting at 160 Eglinton Road, London SE18 3SY, accepts children from 3 months to 5 years and has 56 places in total. That span can carry a family from early baby care to the preschool year, while the capacity describes the whole setting rather than the size of any room.

Language is the thread connecting the strongest evidence. Staff did more than translate isolated words: songs, conversation and play moved between the two languages. For a child growing up with Spanish, this can connect home and nursery vocabulary. For a child new to Spanish, it creates repeated exposure in ordinary activity rather than a detached lesson.

The April 2022 observations are a dated picture rather than today’s routine. They still give families a clear account of the bilingual character and the quality found at that point.

Bonitots follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, the framework that organises learning through play across communication, physical development, personal and social development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts. In April 2022, the curriculum was broad and balanced, with suitable challenges for children.

The bilingual work was practical rather than ornamental. Older children sang familiar songs in Spanish and English, while a bee-shelter activity introduced beehive and colmena and linked new vocabulary to earlier experiences. Inspectors saw children of different ages sustain attention in play planned to suit their development. Staff used these experiences to extend language, concentration and recall. Children also explored emotions through stories and colours, giving them a vocabulary for communicating how they felt. Older children served their own food and drinks and put on coats, although adults did not always leave simple self-care tasks to children. That inconsistency explains why independence became an improvement priority.

Behaviour was generally very good. Children shared resources, built positive peer relationships and contributed ideas confidently. Older children did not always listen or follow instructions, so families should look for how today’s routines balance lively bilingual conversation with careful listening.

In April 2022, children felt safe and secure, sought staff for comfort and shared achievements with them. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds made good progress. Parents valued daily handovers, app-based progress updates and videos with ideas for learning at home.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection. Staff knew how to identify and respond to welfare concerns. Management also used checks before employment and continued oversight once staff were in post. Two improvement points matter: staff needed to give children more consistent chances to manage everyday tasks themselves, and older children needed stronger support with listening and following instructions.

Management had clear priorities for improvement and used supervision, observation, mentoring and training to develop the team. Staff felt supported. For parents, the daily handover and online updates provided two ways to follow development: a quick account at collection and a continuing record through the app. The home-learning videos also connected nursery activities with ideas families could try beyond the setting.

A full day runs from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and the nursery opens throughout the year. It closes on bank holidays and for one week at Christmas. Current nursery-specific prices are supplied in the provider's written quotation.

• Ageing inspection evidence. The Good judgement dates from April 2022. Families should use a visit to understand how the present team carries forward the bilingual curriculum and the two improvement priorities.
• Daily arrangements. Ask which attendance patterns can be booked and how funded hours, meals and non-food consumables are handled before comparing the full cost of a place.
• Room organisation. The age range is broad, from babies to preschool children. Ask how children are grouped now, which spaces each age group uses, how naps are arranged for babies and how moves between groups are managed.

Bonitots' clearest strength is purposeful bilingual learning: inspectors saw Spanish and English embedded in songs, conversation and play. It suits families seeking full-day weekday care and a bilingual early-years experience, provided the current room organisation and booking terms fit their needs.
