Nursery at Eglinton Primary School

Homestart Greenwich brings nursery education into Eglinton’s Foundation Stage building: a partnership with Homestart Greenwich providing nursery education on the school site. The nursery accepts children from the term following their third birthday. For parents, the important distinction is who runs the provision. Nursery applications go to Homestart Greenwich.
Eglinton Primary School and Early Years Centre is on Paget Rise, London SE18 3PY. At the inspection on 29 and 30 April 2025, Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Outstanding. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate inspection outcome for the Homestart nursery.
The Foundation Stage building provides the nursery’s base. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework for early education, including observation of children’s development and arrangements to support special educational needs or disabilities. The school’s 2024–2025 early years programme gives concrete examples of learning about the local community, transport and road safety.
In the school’s 2024–2025 early years enrichment programme, experiences included neighbourhood walks, a garden-centre visit and exploring local transport. A road-safety workshop also featured. These were practical opportunities to connect learning with the places and journeys children encounter beyond the classroom, rather than treating the surrounding community as something to learn about only indoors.
Eglinton’s school inclusion team includes a SENCO, a deputy head responsible for inclusion and a Home School Liaison Officer. The school uses Assess, Plan, Do, Review for additional support: identify the need, plan a response, put it into practice and reconsider it. This gives families a structure for discussing how support should change as a child develops.
School partnerships include ASD Outreach, Educational Psychology and Speech and Language Therapy. These are distinct sources of specialist advice for different needs. Parents can contact the school SENCO at inclusion@eglinton.greenwich.sch.uk. The school’s approach involves families in discussions about additional provision, so parental concerns form part of the support process.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions route. The Royal Borough of Greenwich handles Eglinton’s Reception admissions, with online applications through eAdmission.
For the 2025/26 admission arrangements, nursery attendance did not confer Reception priority. A sibling attending only the nursery did not qualify a child for sibling priority either. For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026; that cycle is now past.
The school’s transition approach includes meeting new adults and visiting a new classroom where needed. Additional help may involve photographs, social stories or extra visits. These measures support familiarity with a change of setting. They do not alter admissions decisions.
The nursery offers the government entitlement of 15 funded hours per week. Working parents may qualify for 30 funded hours, Monday to Friday. Applications for that entitlement go through Childcare Choices; a successful application produces an 11-digit code requiring verification. The eligibility outcome must arrive in the term before the requested 30-hour place begins, making advance planning necessary.
For nursery applications, telephone Homestart Greenwich on 020 8331 0374 or contact enquiries@homestartgreenwich.org.uk. Families can also approach Homestart at Eglinton Children’s Centre. This is the direct route for the nursery partnership.
