Sand explored with feet, sunflower seeds planted and contributions taken to a local foodbank: the May 2023 picture of Little Angels Schoolhouse was practical and connected to its neighbourhood. This Bletchley Street nursery has capacity for 65 children aged 6 to 60 months.
At its May 2023 inspection, Ofsted judged the nursery Good, found safeguarding effective and reported that targeted help, including specialist involvement, supported good progress for children with SEND. Those judgements belong to that visit.
The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care, bringing play and learning together with everyday wellbeing. In May 2023, babies investigated sand through scooping, pouring and feeling it underfoot, while older children planted sunflowers and used dough shapes to talk about number and shape. These examples linked hands-on exploration with conversation.
In May 2023, planning drew on children's interests and the next steps in their learning. Staff used questions to develop conversations, although chances to deepen thinking as play unfolded were sometimes missed. The distinction is useful for parents: choosing an appealing activity is one part of teaching; responding to a child's unexpected idea is another. The improvement priority concerned what practitioners did with those moments.
Community involvement in May 2023 also gave children an active part to play. The foodbank visit involved taking contributions they had collected, connecting an outing with giving to others. Parents' accounts of cultural traditions brought family experiences into nursery life. Together with the Easter visit and Eid celebration, these were concrete ways of introducing children to experiences beyond their own households.
Outdoor activity also mattered in May 2023: children rode scooters and cycles and ran outdoors. An outdoor mud kitchen was among the developments described at that time. Community experiences included a foodbank donation visit, an Easter church visit and an Eid party. Parents shared cultural traditions, giving children opportunities to encounter differences through people and experiences.
Ofsted's May 2023 improvement findings concerned extending children's thinking during adult-led and self-directed play, and helping them resolve disagreements and describe their feelings. Interesting activities needed more consistent follow-through from staff.
In May 2023, staff adjusted routines to children's needs, including allowing longer outdoors when an activity held their interest. Comfort was readily offered, although support with conflict and emotional expression needed further development. That distinction matters: warmth and teaching children how to handle difficult feelings are separate parts of care.
During May 2023, staff's knowledge of individual children helped them notice gaps in learning and arrange targeted help. Other professionals could contribute where appropriate. This describes a process of identifying a need and responding to it, rather than expecting every child to follow the same path. Staff development included SEND training, making additional support a subject for practitioners' own learning as well as their work with children.
Safeguarding practice in May 2023 included staff training, quizzes and discussion about responsibilities. Practitioners knew the local procedures for referring concerns, while recruitment checks and repeated suitability declarations formed part of the arrangements. Daily safety checks addressed the environment. These details give substance to the dated safeguarding judgement: it concerned staff knowledge, procedures and checks as well as the security of the premises.
Mealtimes in May 2023 brought children together in a canteen, with conversation alongside lunch; toothbrushing followed the meal. A nutritionist worked with the cook. Regular updates kept parents involved, while staff supervision and professional development included training about SEND.
The address is 5 Bletchley Street, London N1 7QG. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, across the year, with closures on bank holidays and between Christmas and New Year.
In May 2023, the nursery received funding for early education for children aged two, three and four. This is a dated account of participation, rather than a promise of a particular funded attendance arrangement.
For families seeking care between 8am and 6pm across the year, Little Angels Schoolhouse offers a practical opening window. Its May 2023 strengths lay in hands-on experiences, community connections and responsive everyday care. The balance is clear: engaging activities and warm relationships, alongside specific work needed on deeper thinking and emotional expression.
