Rosemount Nursery

Rosemount Nursery is a small Alexandra Park setting for children aged two to four, with capacity for 30 children at 6 Grosvenor Road, London N10 2DS. Language and literacy were especially strong in June 2023. Children had access to books, listened to stories each day, practised early writing and explored letters and sounds. Staff introduced broad vocabulary through conversation, helping children express themselves with confidence.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the statutory framework for children's learning, development and care. In practical terms, it connects the nursery's play, communication, physical development and preparation for school rather than treating them as separate extras.

Outdoor provision was a defining strength at that visit. The large garden was used all year, and children carried crates up a ladder to a playhouse as part of imaginative play. That combined coordination, managed risk and sustained conversation rather than treating outdoor time as a simple break from learning.

Relationships were affectionate and attentive in June 2023. Children sought reassurance when needed, while staff knew their key children well, tracked progress closely and identified where support was required. Work with parents and other professionals helped children with SEND access the curriculum.

Parents were kept informed about progress and could join learning through a book-lending scheme and special events. Staff supervision, safeguarding training, safer recruitment and awareness of abuse indicators led Ofsted to judge safeguarding effective at the inspection.

There were two clear weaknesses. Group activities did not always build effectively on what staff knew about each child, causing some children to lose focus or become confused. Some mealtime routines also needed better organisation to strengthen children's independence and learning.
