Cannon Barn Montessori School

Montessori means child-chosen work with prepared materials at Cannon Barn: two daily work cycles, an open-plan Montessori Room and a listed heritage space called The Barn. Its morning and afternoon work cycles each last two and a half hours; children choose materials from the shelves, while activities are selected around ages, developmental stages and individual interests.

Each child has a key person on the Baby/Toddler Side and changes key person when moving to the Montessori side. Progress is shared through the EYWORKS app, while babies' and toddlers' daily diaries cover meals, naps and nappy changes. An All About Me session before settling starts gives staff information about the child, and parents can arrange consultations; Montessori parents' evenings take place once a term.

At that visit, children separated easily and key persons gathered information for settling. Parents valued online observations, photographs and help with meals, sleep and toilet-training routines.

Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Fresh food is prepared and cooked on site, and the nursery employs a trained chef. The published menu caters for vegetarian, pure vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets; beef and pork are not cooked, and meat comes from a local halal butcher.
