Kiddicare Nursery

Kiddicare Nursery is a 30-place full-day setting at 28 Love Lane, Pinner, caring for children from birth to age five. Ofsted rated it Good in June 2023, following an Inadequate inspection in January that year, and found effective safeguarding arrangements at the later visit.

The clearest strength was purposeful, child-led learning. In June 2023, children explored the life cycles of bees and sunflowers, planted seeds and used magnifying glasses to investigate insects in the garden.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) shapes the curriculum: staff use children's interests and next learning steps to plan experiences across communication, physical development, early mathematics and wider learning. In June 2023, staff introduced vocabulary such as edible and inedible, while water, oats and different-sized bowls became a practical mathematics activity.

Books had an active role. Staff used props and linked activities for story re-enactment, and older children retold familiar stories to their peers. Children also developed fine-motor control through play dough, mark-making, spray bottles, and grinding herbs with mortars and pestles.

Outdoor learning had substance but also limitations. Children investigated nature and joined dancing and yoga sessions, but staff sometimes missed opportunities to extend the youngest children's learning outdoors. Ofsted separately asked the provider to support less-confident staff so that teaching would be consistently strong, and to build more vigorous, challenging and risky play into children's experiences.

Relationships were a positive feature in June 2023. Staff knew children well, used observation to plan next steps and helped children build self-regulation through feelings work, breathing techniques and independent conflict-solving. Parents reported that communication about learning, progress and next steps was strong.

Ofsted found safeguarding effective in June 2023. Staff understood how to identify and refer concerns, while risk assessments and background checks supported safer practice. Children also learnt practical safety, including how to dial 999 in an emergency.

Meals were described as nutritious and balanced. Children helped set tables, used utensils and fed themselves, turning lunchtime into practice in responsibility and self-care.

The nursery opens Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, throughout the year except bank holidays. It has capacity for 30 children aged from birth to five. Funded early education was recorded in June 2023 for children aged two, three and four.

• Outdoor physical challenge. The nursery was asked to provide more consistent vigorous, challenging and risky play. Families for whom outdoor movement is a priority should discuss how practice has developed since June 2023.
• Support for the youngest children. June 2023 findings identified occasional missed opportunities to extend younger children's outdoor learning. Ask how staff coaching now supports consistent teaching.

By June 2023, this was a setting that responded quickly to a poor earlier judgement and reached Good across every graded area. Its strengths lay in warm relationships, language-rich teaching and practical learning, from insect investigation to story re-enactment. The two improvement points matter, especially for families prioritising ambitious outdoor play for younger children. It is best suited to families seeking weekday full-day care in a small, 30-place Pinner setting and who value close communication about children's progress.
