Practical detail gives that learning character. Children counted fish in water play, compared shapes and sizes in sand, and used large blocks and construction materials to build a house. The role-play area linked pretend cooking with buying real groceries. Small-group work gave practitioners room to ask simple questions, extend children's language and use stories and mark-making to develop early literacy.

Outdoor activity was purposeful and demanding. Children tackled physical challenges that built mobility, balance, coordination and perseverance. That combination should appeal to families who want energetic play to contribute directly to learning rather than sit alongside it.

Relationships were a clear strength. Children formed secure bonds with their key person and friendships with one another. Staff modelled considerate behaviour, praised positive choices and helped children learn to take turns, recognise feelings and respect simple boundaries.

Support for children with special educational needs and disabilities was coordinated rather than isolated. The SENCO ran individual sessions to address identified gaps, while parents, outside professionals and the key person allocated to each child shared assessments and agreed the support needed. Parents also contributed to next-step planning. Charlie chick extended that partnership into the home: children explored with the character as a family, then talked about the experience on returning.

Healthy routines included activity, handwashing, tooth-brushing practice and encouragement to eat well. Two precise priorities were set: create more opportunities for children to manage small tasks independently, and adapt large-group activities so children needing extra support can sustain attention and learning.

The pre-school is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, during term time and closes for school holidays. These hours describe the operating day rather than a choice of bookable session patterns.

Funded childcare was recorded for eligible children aged two, three and four. Eligibility and the way funded hours fit an individual attendance pattern should be discussed directly with the setting. Families should also request a current written quotation for any privately paid hours or extras.
