Little Poppets Preschool

Little Poppets Preschool is a term-time, sessional setting for two- to four-year-olds in Elm Park Assembly Hall, Hornchurch. At the July 2025 inspection, staff also planned from observations of children's motor development. Children filled and emptied containers at the water tray, made marks with paint and used instruments for musical expression.

Communication is treated as something children practise with one another, not only with adults. Show and tell gives them a reason to speak about an object from home, and in July 2025 children were keen to choose books and join stories, songs and rhymes. The curriculum was ambitious and generally well sequenced. The important qualification is that planning did not yet identify some of the independent skills older children need before their next step.

Relationships were a clear strength in July 2025. The key-person system was effective, with familiar adults knowing children well and building secure relationships. Daily updates helped parents understand children's development, while work with parents and outside agencies supported children with special educational needs and disabilities. Links with local schools also helped continuity as children approached Reception, although they do not confer admissions priority.

Safeguarding arrangements were judged effective. Children learned health routines through handwashing and fruit snacks, and staff worked with families to encourage healthy packed lunches. Lunch itself comes from home, while the setting provides healthy snacks.

Behaviour was generally kind and cooperative, but not consistently guided. In July 2025, children running in the hall sometimes needed clearer intervention and explanations of boundaries. Leaders were asked to strengthen staff practice around self-regulation, older children's independence, and coaching and mentoring. These are specific development points rather than reasons to overlook the wider Good judgement.

The preschool operates at Elm Park Assembly Hall, Eyhurst Avenue, Hornchurch RM12 4RA. Its published term-time day runs Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm, with reduced hours available on request. This is a single daytime pattern, so families needing early starts, late finishes or holiday cover will need another arrangement.

The setting publishes funded provision for eligible two-year-olds and 15- or 30-hour entitlements for three- and four-year-olds. It also accepts non-funded two-year-olds and additional paid hours.
